We were lucky enough to be here on a Market day so also got to shop with the locals. We enjoyed a leisure walk about in the shops and stalls with many merchandise choices in all price ranges. Many food options, some street entertainment.

Parts of this street are a step back in time with its castles, little walkways, and quaint shops and restaurants. To me, the rest of Galway can be missed, but this area is special.

Very happening, take a stroll and stop in a few pubs for a pint. As you would expect, lots of tourists in the streets but once in the pubs you get the authentic Galway experience.

A bustling traditional street filled with pubs and shops and street entertainment.
Look out for the Quays pub (Traditional Irish providing great Guinness and Irish Music).

This is a pleasant shopping area with nice restaurants and shops. Some spots have trite souvenirs, but the majority of the shops are unique and carry good quality and unusual merchandise. Woolens at O'Maille's are extraordinary if you are determined to bring home an authentic hand-knit Aran sweater. Just be prepared to pay for fine quality. Other shops carry machine-knit sweaters at lower prices if these better suit your budget. Twice as Nice is a good place to find moderately priced nice gifts.
