I never like or pay much heed to bad reviews as iv worked in the hotel business for over a decade and find most people who write bad reviews are just bored extremely fussy people but felt the need to share my experience in the skeffs galway as it was appalling!!!We stayed in this hotel as a last minute option as it was central and we had plans to go out in galway city that night because my boyfriend was bringing me out for my birthday. The hotel room was lovely but the room was freezing cold so we told the receptionist and she said shed get it sorted. Then we went into the skeffs bar which was very busy took 3 quarters of a hour to get our drinks by an extremely rude barmaid in which the mean time while waiting to be served my boyfriend was pickpocketed he realised almost straight away because he felt something and knew it was odd and felt his pocket straight away and his 500 euro samsung phone was gone we reported it straight away to the manager who went srtaight off to check the cameras ,we ended up waiting the whole night to see what was happening to be told at around 2 oclock the couldnt check cameras until morning for some reason but they had an idea who it was. Our night was ruined at this stage so we went to bed to find the room was behond freezin.my boyriend dozed off but i been 3 months pregnant could not and rang down to reception repeatidly for 2 hours with no answer, at my wits end had to walk down into the bar and over to barstaff who were all sitting around drinking had to go over and ask could someone come up and turn on the heating in our room and they said they would send someone up , 1hour later a porter came up and tried to fix the heating but could not and they had no more rooms to move us to.so i stayed awake all night . the next day we were told to wait til 3 oclock in the freezing room until a manager could talk to us in which we were told the cameras were broken last night so basically tough luck and when i asked for a discount on or bill as a token of good will after our experience i was told no. never again.Jacqui

Dear Guest,
First and foremost, thank you for having taken the time to share your feedback following your disappointing experience at The Skeffington Arms Hotel. Thank you for your comments about our service as we as a company cannot improve our service without hearing valuable feedback like this.

I believe the incident that you are referring to actually happened in November 2012. Your claim was investigated thoroughly by our bar manager and all relevant information was passed on to you.

Apologies on the heating in our bedrooms there was no excuse for this and since I am delighted to say that we have installed a new heating system into our bedrooms.
You can contact me directly on Lisa@skeffington.ie.if you wish to discuss the matter further.

Best wishes,

I made the right choice by selecting the Skeffington arms for my trip to Galway. The location is perfect, just a short walk across a lovely park from the train station. Staff were super friendly and the rooms very clean and most importantly had air-con. The door to our room did stick in the frame a bit and the morning breakfast service was a bit of a shambles (the poor girl was having a bit of a melt down) but apart from that the overal expereince was good. The downstairs pub is really big with lots of interesting nooks to hide away in.

Room Tip: Perhaps avoid the front as there is a busy pub right underneath.

Galway was the last stop of an eleven day Irish holiday. I reserved a room at the Skeffington Arms Hotel through email. The Skeffington is well located. Eyre Square is a central point in Galway, and the pedestrian street -- Shop Street is a few minutes away. The hotel itself is located on a pedestrian street. There is no hotel parking but the Skeffington offers discount covered parking at a public parking building. We parked in the bus station parking area near the Hotel Myrick and did not have any issues. We stayed in room 204 on the third level. It was a little small but comfortable. The mattress was probably getting old. Being located on Eyre Square has advantages and disadvantages. Our room faced the square so there was some street noise, and the Skeffington states that quietness is not guaranteed, but regardless, I had two good night's sleep. There is a shopping mall a few steps away. The front desk staff was wonderful, very friendly and helpful. We went to the Aran islands from Galway and the shuttle bus departure point was about 10 minutes from the hotel. The bottom line is, I would stay at the Skeffington again, and would recommend it to a friend

We came by car during the summer. That was a challenge - but we managed. The hotel has no street address except Eyre square, so you cannot plot it exactly into the GPS. Moreover, it is located in a pedestrian street in the south-west end of the square. There was no available parking in the square so that you could stop to look for the hotel, and all parking in the streets near by was full – the town was crowded with cars. There was also nowhere to stop to unload luggage, except in the entrance to the pedestrian road, but that area seemed blocked by taxies and transport.
The best option is to go directly to Q-park in Merchants road, located in Corbett Court Shopping Centre - five minutes walk from the hotel. You get a parking discount if you validate the ticket at your hotel.
Unfortunately, the hotel web site does not give you all this information - it should. I would recommend a separate section titled ´arriving by car´.
Otherwise charming hotel, friendly staff - but they forgot to tidy the room because they mixed it up with the room next door with a ´do not disturb´sign. Clean rooms, good breakfast, air-condition. Great location. But noise from the pub and the square next door.

Room Tip: As far away from the pub and square as possible.

Dear Guest,

I cannot thank you enough for the time you took to put your astute observations in writing. After the last 20 great reviews, a poor one was bound to emerge. I am delighted you have afforded us this opportunity to refocus the team every so often this is vital. I am delighted to say that since your stay in July, we have updated our “how to find us” page. I was delighted to see that you found our hotel to be of high standards & in July the air conditioning was a major bonus!

We look forward to your return visit and this time exceeding your expectations.

Sincerely,

Lisa and Team

Excellent location, right on Eyre Square. Short walk from the train and bus stations. Parking is in a garage about a 5 minute walk away (Be sure to have the hotel validate your parking ticket for a discounted rate). The room was very nice and clean. The full Irish breakfast was great. The attached pub / restaurant has great food and a wide variety of beer and other drinks.
