Had a meal in Tamarind in Salthill last week on the balcony. The sun was shining the wine was lovely and chilled and the food and service I could not fault. I had a variation from the menu having Singapore noodle with duck and my wife had duck pancakes as a main course. Both of us could not finish our meals so they boxed them up and we took them home. Its great to see the restaurant open again ok not in Spanish Arch but closer to where I live. I loved the Lemongrass and now I have found a restaurant as good.

Went for a takeaway having dined at the old tamarind on previous occasions, but it is hard to believe that this tamarind is the same restaurant! It was probably the worst takeaway I ever got. We had aromatic duck came with pancakes that were soggy, rubber and not edible. Instead of steam rice we got soggy vegetables. The chips were cold, the lamb curry was ok and we were given a brown bag of supposedly prawn crackers which were brown and not white and tasted awful. I don't want you to experience this horrible taste! The result was a round trip of two mile home and two mile back to return the entire meal. I do have to complement the young waitress and very young manager who refunded my money without hesitation and asked me to call again in the future - which I told him I would not be doing. I am short that this restaurant that this restaurant is masquerading under the 'tamarind' name and its previous excellent reputation.

Dear Grainne,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience at Tamarind. As you know we have just reopened in Salthill and we are finding our feet in the new premises at present. We are in the process of ironing out all the little bumps to ensure high standards at all times so I am grateful that you informed us of this mishap.

We have spoken to the kitchen about this on the night in question and they have told us that everything is fresh and cooked to order. Needless to say mistakes can happen and we apologise that your takeaway was not satisfactory. However, I do wish to point out in case there was confusion, that we here in Tamarind have never had white prawn crackers. Our prawn crackers are brown as these are traditionally Thai Crackers, while the white crackers are Chinese.

Once again I am very sorry about this and I understand how frustrating it can be to receive food which is not up to the standard you expect.

Thank you for leaving this review as it is one of the ways we improve our service. If you wish to contact me my email is Christine@tamarind.ie, or the restaurant number is 091 502000.

Kind Regards,

Christine.
