Our stay in Anchor Lodge was inviting and comfortable.. Edwina was welcoming and helpful. It rated excellent for hygiene. The breakfast was generous and delicious with exceptional homebaking. It was home away from home. Would highly recommend it. Rates very reasonable.

We spent two nights here and had a very comfortable room with all the extras we needed, like a hair dryer, coffee/tea, WiFi. Edwina, her husband, and her father were all helpful and very friendly. The breakfasts were generous and delicious, the breakfast roomy sunny and inviting. We loved the location too as it was convenient to the city center and we could walk to shops and restaurants. Our hosts recommended restaurants that were a good value and proved to be good choices.

We spent 2 nights here. Our rooms were nice and we managed the "electric" shower in the small bathroom without any problems. Our hostess, Edwina, was very friendly and gave us great tips on where to spend our time in Galway. The breakfasts were among the best we had during our trip.

We stayed in a a nice big room (though with a tiny bathroom) in the front of the house but never had trouble sleeping despite the Anchor Lodge being located on a somewhat busy street. Things quieted down as the evening wore on. The breakfast proportions were generous, and the food was served in a lovely sunroom that looked out on a small, but attractive garden. -- This was also a good location -- not in the city center and noise but close enough to walk to anything we wanted to do. Edwina and her family gave helpful advice about things to do in the Galway area and places to eat in the city.

My husband and I stayed in this BnB for three nights in May 2013. Our hosts were very warm and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. They had several amenities for our use--even a converter, which we ended up using because ours went out. The shower was a bit tricky with the on-demand electric water heater in the shower, but there was plenty of hot water. Our breakfasts were outstanding in the lovely glass-enclosed conservatory. This BnB is within easy walking distance to many restaurants and pubs; our hosts recommended several places to eat. There was even parking on site, which is usually hard to find. Overall it was one of the nicer BnBs we stayed in and a good value. When we got back to the US, we discovered that there was an error in the charge, so we notified the owner. She took care of it right away, and we are very pleased with her eagerness to resolve the problem.

We are two friends , booked for two nights B and B , stayed only one night , didn't even stay for breakfast , couldn't wait to check out. Two rooms were booked at the same cost. One room was spacious and at first glance looked modern and in good shape ( wrong impression ) the bedding was frayed , no duvet, a sheet and blanket and a quilt looked like it was bought in 1955 ! The tea tray with kettle had no nearby plug, the nearest was ceiling high to accommodate the on wall tv. The only other one was directly behind the bed head . The water was cold in the shower also in the wash basin and never got warm.
Room two
This room was a joke. A room with attic type ceiling sloping to door height , a room only suitable to include a single bed. A double bed was jammed against the wall . The whole room needed a face lift , especially the old dirty carpet. No space for decent cupboards or table .

When we complained about the state of the smaller room it was said that an alternative would be found the next day.
The attitude of the proprietor was take it or leave it , move out if you don't like it.
I have stayed in many b and bs in several counties in Ireland and never in as bad a place as the Anchor Lodge.

Irish hospitality has always been second to none, this is the first time I've encountered this attitude.
