I regret choosing the Imperial for our stay in Galway. For a little more money we could of stayed in an above average hotel. The only real positive comment about the Imperial is the location. The public parking lot was a bit of a pain (my husband stayed in the car in a handicapped spot while my friend and I dragged out luggage to checked in). We were then told about the discounted parking lot which was a few blocks away. Our room was similar to a youth hostile and though spacious, no extras in this hotel! Heat was an issue. Bed mattresses were barely acceptable. Front desk gal was not very friendly. Breakfast (as advertised in the hotel) was a "cold buffet". Again, pretty basic. I would not recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for one a one night stay in Galway City. The location is excellent, right on Eyre Square as described.

The Hotel itself not 5 star luxury, but it is clean and comfortable, with all of the appliances in full working order. Perfect for a stopping off point, but perhaps not somewhere to spend too much time in.

Some Advice. The hotel doesn't have parking, but recommends a private car park for €10. This is a special rate for hotel guests, which isn't immediately clear, make sure they stamp your ticket before you leave. Also while the car park is quite closeby, with bags it's maybe a 10 minute walk (might be easier to make two trips to the car which I learned the hard way).

Excellent location, good food, adequate bar downstairs. Traveled with family to meet up with our study abroad daughter in Galway. Hotel was right in the middle of all the shopping, food and entertainment- less than a block from Shop street. Parking is at a garage across Eyre Square near the Tourist office. sGet your parking sticker stamped by hotel for a discount (not free). The breakfast was more than adequate for us. Bread, hard boiled egg, tea, coffee, rolls, sandwich meats and cheese, canned fruits and 3 types of cereal. Easy access to Tourist office, plenty of help from the front desk in offering directions and suggestions. Our rooms had a double bed and single with room to spread out. Even in the back of the hotel we heard the late night partying from outside (11p to 1a) but really didn't bother us. Large TV on the wall with 6 or so channels. Bathroom with tub and shower. It's a leg up to get into the tub as it's elevated off the floor some. Soap in dispensers on the wall, no little bottles. We were there at the end of the Arts Festival and start of the Races and got around with buses, cabs and walking with no problems. Absolutely recommend this hotel.

My partner and myself (aged 29 and 30) have just returned home from a brilliant weekend in Galway where we stayed at the Imperial Hotel. The location is spot on for those who like to eat out followed by drinks. Each day we had a beautiful meal in the restaurant of the hotel, followed by lots of wine at the Spainish Arch and The Kings Head on shop street (literally 5mins from the hotel) I am a vegetarian and always find it hard to get a nice meal,,however the food at the hotel was outstanding. Our plates were licked clean everyday!!! The staff were very friendly, the night porter was very accomodating, serving us a night cap each late night we arrived back after the nightclub. The room we stayed in was 151 and had a view of the main street which was brill as the Arts Festival was on the weekend we stayed and the parade went down that street so we had a bird's eye view from our room. Before i booked this hotel i read reviews that were saying the breakfast was disappointing,,and i think some people can just be very picky. each morning i had Tea/Coffee, orange juice, cheese and toast and chocolate croissants. This to me is just smashing,,i was full leaving and happy. We cant wait to go back to Galway,,we have been many times but always stay in B&B's on college rd,,we will defo be back to stay at the imperial hotel. 3 nights for 139euro...sure how bad would you be!!!

Stayed here on my Stag weekend, about 10 of us booked in here. Location is tremendous of course on Eyre Square, can't go wrong there and the room (twin) was spacious with a double and single bed and the shower was grand, good pressure and temperature, so far so good.

The breakfast though was awful. Firstly, anyone could walk in off the street and tuck in, nobody there to ask you room number or check were you a resident. Secondly, the fare on offer was cereal, fruit, cheeses/meats, yogurt, hard boiled eggs just lying about willy nilly and brown and white sliced pan and the McCambridge type brown bread. The sliced brown bread, every slice, was mouldy. I nearly retched when I seen it. Told the woman on duty who although she said thanks, scurried off quick as a flash to remove the mouldy bread. I thought she might apologise about it but that was the last I saw of her. Bar staff and check in staff were helpful and polite and the residents' bar staff patient as we were still sitting there at 6am Sunday morning. But the breakfast and the mouldy bread would have to mean a thumbs down overall.
