“Very disappointing”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

We opted to stay in this B and B because of what we had read. We were very disappointed but I shall begin with the positives. Breakfast was very good, proximity to main shopping areas a nice walk away. The negatives, the towels were gray and threadbare, the room ordinary, certainly not four star, the tv and reception very poor. Noise from the kitchen above was very annoying and kept us awake. I could not recommend this B and B as a four star establishment.

My husband and I stayed at St Jude's in Galway in mid September. We found it to be in a great, quiet location that was an easy walk to either the downtown or the Salthill areas. We arrived mid afternoon exhausted from our travel and was given a lovely double en-suite on the first floor that looked out to a little terraced patio. We took a small cat nap with calming chimes from the patio and sunlight (yes, it was sunny) streamed through our open window. The room was clean and well decorated and the bed was large and very comfortable. The signal for the WiFi was not strong enough as soon as we shut the bedroom door. This wasn't an issue at all for us because the guest lounge at the front of the house had the best reception and was a nice place to catch up with necessary emails and what not before bed or first thing in the morning. Breakfast was delicious. To be honest my husband and I both had the poached eggs and potato bread both mornings. We looked around at a couple of other guests food and it all looked very good. If we are ever able to return to the Galway area we would not hesitate to stay at St. Jude's again.

We enjoyed our stay at St. Judes very much. When arriving we were welcomed with tea and biscuits in the nicely decorated living room. Our room was especially nice, because of the interiour design and the wonderful view to the flowerbed with roses. Everything was very clean. The owners were helpful and kind. They recommended nice local restaurants. St. Judes is ideally located to explore Salthill. Useful to get to the city centre was the bus stop in front of St. Judes.
Terrific was the breakfast menu and everything was delicious. We highly recommend St. Judes, if you plan to stay in Galway.

Our stay @ St. Judes was very nice. The B&B is a beautiful house sitting back off the main street it is on.
We had two great rooms for our family of 5 in the back of the house. There is a nice garden in the back to relax in unfortunately weather was rainy so could not take advantage of it. The rooms and grounds were perfectly kept.

The breakfast every morning started our day with a “solid base”. We did have a car (and there is a lot in front) since we were traveling around the country but the location of the B&B is perfect. Salthill a small seaside town is less than a 10 min walk with restaurants, pubs and shops, Galway is about 20 min walk right to the closed off pedestrian part of the city with a lots of restaurants, pubs and shops. We do not mind walking so by the time you hop in the car drive thru traffic and park in a lot you would have done the walk. Plus then you have no worries about going to pubs and driving.

With Ita’s help and directions we did a day trip to explore the country north of the B&B and did some hiking. One note no matter how much you hear about the roads in Ireland how narrow they are, trust me they really are once you are on them.

In short I would absolutely recommend this B&B to anyone.

We arrived late after a long drive from Cork and were confused when we arrived since I had thought I booked an ensuite but our bathroom was right next door to our room. This was my first experience staying in a B&B and I wasnt very excited about after we had arrived.

Overall the experience was okay, there was a weird smell in the room(but we didnt see anyone to tell) and when we tried to open the window there was a smell of gas that came in from an exhaust pipe or something so we had to keep the windows shut.

When we woke up the next morning we were pleased with breakfast and the young woman who was working there. She made a delicious breakfast and I loved that we had many choices to choose from and fresh fruit and juices.

I do reccomend to stay here...the bathroom and room was clean minus the smell...

St Jude's is a beautiful Victorian home boasting a wealth of original features. Our room was massive and the bathroom was modern and chic. We are early risers and as breakfast did not start till 8:30 we enquired about tea making. A tray with mugs, tea, kettle and milk was delivered to our room. After a brisk walk along the sea front in the morning we returned to enjoy a fresh and comprehensive breakfast in an elegant dining room. If we ever return to Ireland St Jude's will definitely be on our itinerary.

Room Tip: Get a room near the front to be able to get a wifi signal. We had to use the guest lounge.

We sayed at St Jude's one evening in July and after a very long day of driving and sight seeing we were a little unsure of our welcome to the B & B. we arrived around 8:00 pm and just didn't feel a warm fuzzy if that makes sense; however, the next day at breakfast (it was wonderful and the young woman working the room "sorry I can't remember her name" was terrific & nice. In addition, a couple of the other workers were great which really turned our view of the B & B around. Not too far from City Centre - maybe 20 minutes or so.
