Owner description: O’Connell’s bar is located in the heart of Galway city in Eyre Square. A traditional Irish bar which was originally a grocery store and small bar, and it still has most of its original features and decor. O' Connells is one of Galway's oldest bars and is famous for its cosy atmosphere and amazing pint of Guinness. O' Connells have a large selection of whiskeys, gins and craft beers. They also have a large heated beer garden with outdoor bars and live entertainment every weekend.

We had been told that this pub was a good place to watch the rugby. I can only comment on the front bar. This is long and narrow with the TV (Old and not a great picture) at the far end.
The place has a low ceiling which makes it hard to see unless you are more then half way up the length of the bar.
The beer garden might be OK but it was closed due to high winds.
There are better places in Galway

Well you can enjoy great hospitality and literally outside the door you can be seen to browse the Christmas market hence calling it a shopping trip too

The Bar is right on Eyre Sq and looks small from the outside. Don't be deceived, there are old room after room beyond the main bar and a great outdoor bar area. The place has great character. It isn't a flash place, but appears very popular and the was a great crowd.

Stopped here randomly in June 2012. This pub is really cool. It looks small but has a great, large outdoor space in the back/side. Lots of locals. It is located right off Eyre Square. When we were there there was a drink of the day special for 3 euros - when we were there it was a flavored Bulmers. Great deal, very fun spot!!

Very popular pub in the centre of Galway on the east side of Eyre Square. All the features of the old bar are retained and walking through the door, you might as well be walking into an Ireland of the 1950s. The pub is subject to a preservation order so there is no danger of anything being changed in the immediate future.

At the back of the pub is a large outdoor beer garden with seating which is ideal for smokers as well as those who like their drink outside. Areas of the beer garden are under cover and are heated so ideal for the winter months.

From media reports it was sold for over €14m in the property bubble of the mid 2000s! Great pub as it is, when you see the bar you will wonder how anyone could spend so much on it!
