Incredible ambience, full of kind locals, friendly pub staff, and a great draught selection. Find a place at the bar and listen to the unamplified music that will actually give you a chance to converse while you soak in the vibes of Gallway.

The well-kept red and black of the exterior of Tig Coili Galway Bar makes sure that passersby take some notice, despite all the competition of the busy pedestrian shopping district of Galway. Everything about its looks meets the charm expectations of a visitor, and then you notice signs posting times for live music performances. Oh, my! We ended a long hot day of sightseeing with cold pints of Guinness and about an hour of listening to three very good musicians playing traditional and fun music. One delightful bonus was three little girls who could step dance, who entertained us all (including the musicians, I believe) and were rewarded with applause and free cold sodas. What a fun time! If you're a firefighter or police officer from elsewhere, consider being prepared to donate an embroidered badge from your force to the large collection of badges already posted behind the bar. It sure seemed to me that the Boston, Massachusetts, suburbs were already well-represented there!

My wife and I spent a few days in Galway and were looking for a great place for traditional music. After seeing the sights in the area and viewing St. Nicholas church next door, we heard what we came for coming from the open back door of a pub where people had huddled to smoke. We went around front to find that the name of this pub was Tig Cóilí. We'd heard the owner of the B&B we were stay in mention this as a good place to go. We were not disappointed. Huddled at the front near the door were 4 musicians who really knew their way around and Irish tune. They were lively and very talented. They played for a good 90 minutes, took a break, then played for 90 more.

But it was the locals who also made this a fun night, especially a local named Matthew and his brother (and his brother's wife). They were fun to talk to and really made us feel a part of the scene.

The atmosphere was just what you want in a pub (rowdy, but not enough to interfere with the music). The serious music lovers drift to the front of the pub, anyway. The Guinness and Smithwick's were first rate. One of the characteristics of the bar area was a slew of American dollar bills (and bills from other countries) tacked to the wall above and behind the bar. Each had a "saying" or just a location of origin for the bill written across the face. Those along with fire department patches from US fire departments seem to be a "thing" in many of the pubs we visited. Anyway, it was all great fun and an evening to remember.

My two year old loved the live music at this pub and since it played at 6 and then a later time he actually got to hear it before bed. There is a good selection of beers on tap. Mostly Americans in the bar when we were there. Only a few locals.

My husband and I really liked this pub! It was so lively and fun! It had traditional Irish music playing by musicians up in the front and they were very talented! We would definitely go to this place again!
