Had dinner in Kai midweek and everything about it was great.
The crab starter,lamb main to the Achill Island ice cream were served bursting with flavours and tasted great as the brown bread and lovely country butter .
Lovely wines available.
Service is casual and relaxed and dishes were explained to us in an enthuastic and knowledgeable way.
The decor is rustic and different right to the glass ceiling and creates a most relaxing, atmospheric evening.
A must and another great dining venue for Galway..........see it has won Connaught Restraunt and chef of the year.........not surprised.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a fellow patron in a nearby bar. It is kind of out of the way, but don't be discouraged by appearances! Best dinner we had in Ireland. Atmosphere is quirky and different; spire of nearby cathedral visible through skylight, wait staff dressed in street clothes, for example. Just a very fun evening in an unusual setting. Give it a try; you will be glad you did!

We were in Galway overnight near the end of our week in Ireland. Our hosts at our B & B sent us to the Salt Haus for their amazing craft beer selection. While there, the bartender and locals raved about Kai. They called and we were able to be seated 15 minutes later. The host was SO welcoming, explaining what some of the ingredients were as some are quiet unique to Ireland. The service flowed perfectly--not too fast or slow. We all had the best meal of our entire trip to Ireland at Kai. While they were so intereting, they were also flavor-filled and comforting.
The restaurant is in an old florists space and the glass ceiling even overlooks the cathedral stretching above. We had an amazing meal, perfect service and overall charming evening. Call ahead for a reservation--now we know why this place books up--it is top notch cuisine!

I live in Galway and have been to Kai several times for both dinner and brunch. Everytime it was delicious, food is simply amazing. Staff are lovely and the atmosphere is great. To me is the best restaurant in Galway by far and I will continue to go there regularly.

on a recent visit to Galway, we were very anxious to sample Kai restaurant for lunch. We had heard and read much about it and we were not disappointed.

The restaurant is just a short walk from the city centre. on entering, you immediately get a warm, friendly feeling. the decor is quirky yet not smarmy. - look out for the lampshades that are empty jam jars....

The lunch menu in Kai changes most days...depending what is available.
the salads are imaginative and so very fresh...
the selection of leaves is amazing and the food has a wonderful natural fresh taste to it.
the spiced-yoghurt chicken was a real winner. there were also some wonderful smoked fish options available on the day of our visit.
there is a lovely display of baked deserts....but our lunch salads were ample.
treat yourself with a visit to Kai.
