Description: The food is based on our terroir, the ensemble of natural influences that give a food a sense of place. In the west of Ireland we are surrounded by lush ancient woodland, bountiful shorelines, thriving farmlands all heaving with some of the best ingredients in Europe but unique to us. Aniar obeys the seasons and lets nature decide our menu.Recently returned from Noma, the Danish restaurant, voted the World’s Best Restaurant 2011, Enda McEvoy heads the kitchen. He works closely with local producers while also gathering wild herbs, plants and seaweeds each day from the woodlands and seashore around the area to produce a cuisine based around light clean flavours.Light sauces and stocks, properly reared animals (utilizing all of the animal), sustainably caught fish with an eye to the future of the fishing industry and evolving with the seasons using vegetables, herbs, fruits and berries, either from the wild or cultivated, all encompass the Aniar philosophy. The Chefs pickle and brine as much as is bountiful during the spring and summer to see the restaurant through the winter. Enda explains “we use modern culinary techniques to obtain the best out of the ingredients, while never losing sight of the integrity of the produce”.

“Yes - great food! ... Simple setting”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

It is all about the food! Great creations - capturing local flavors while using local ingredients. A well deserved Michelin star. Service was attentive. The setting is simple and basic - a slight disappointment that seems somewhat mismatched to the food.

Food was really different and tasty, its a real treat for a special occasion. Not at all pretentious, quite casual actually which makes all about the food and much more enjoyable!

“all about the food, really”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

I went here the night before my birthday. I really liked the location, nice area of Galway, simple room, unpretentiously furnished.
The waiting staff were welcoming and helpful and as attentive as you wanted them to be.
The food was a real pleasure: really good ingredients, cleverly combined and simply executed but with great craft. Flavours are subtle and expressive of the individual food products, so you do not find excessively rich sauces or heavy seasoning which can be typical of many places. A very confident hand in the kitchen that pares things back rather than overloading your palate. Elegant food, creative and confident; probably healthy too!

“Not cheap but value for an amazing meal and experience”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

Had dinner here last Friday night. It was without doubt the best meal I have ever tasted. The food is fantastic. The service was excellent - friendly, informative and very welcoming.

It was a little more expensive then your standard night out but we spent over four hours enjoying every bit of dinner. At no time did we feel rushed and the timing between each course was perfect. It really was a fantastic experience and I'll be recommending it to all my friends.

Highlights included - duck hearts starter, the INCREDIBLE dessert of beetroot and rose parfait, the fantastic cheese board. I am not a dessert person but this was a revelation. It made me feel like I was 7 years old again as I was eating it. It was just amazing.

We drank wine by the glass and asked for advice on which wine for each course. Once again, faultless service and great advice.

The only disadvantage I would say is that the restaurant is quite bare, there was a table of 8 women dining near us who were a little loud as the wine flowed! Not offensively so but the noise does tend to bounce around the place. Thus if you are slightly deaf then I would recommend asking for the seat by the window.

If you are into your food then you will absolutely love an evening here. However, it is more expensive than your average restaurant but considering the service, the food and the ambiance, I'd consider it the best value for what we paid for the meal.
