“Real homecooked food in Galway city centre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2014

I have eaten here three times, once for breakfast, once for lunch and once for coffee. On all occasions the food and coffee was great. It has free wi fi so if you are on your own and just want a break from browsing around town or shopping, then this is the place. The centre of Galway is pedestrianized so it is ideal for walking around this lovely old town. On Saturdays there is a market so a trip to Cambridge's is, for me, the added bonus. Two weeks ago I met a friend and we had beautiful ciabattas for lunch and finished off sharing a chocolate and raspberry brownie with cream which was gorgeous. There is also a fantastic food store and deli on the ground floor. We had breakfast there one Sunday morning and again it was great. Food is always fresh. There can be a bit of a queue but it is never for long.

“Breakfast”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

We have eaten a number of times at McCambridges and were very satisfied so much so that have recommended to others to dine there. However today we decided to go for breakfast and to say the least very disappointed in the food served. I ordered the homemade baked beans with ham hock on sour dough bread with a portion of mushrooms, my partner ordered a full irish breakfast. We disappointed on 3 counts, my breakfast was warm as opposed to hot, there was little or no ham in the beans, I found only 2pieces!! My partners breakfast was also warm and the '1' sausage was not what you would call a traditional breakfast sausage, it was far too rich and seemed to have an 'alcohol' flavour.
When paying I explained our dissatisfaction and to be fair to the attendant at the till she was very apologetic and said that she discounted the cost of the tea to compensate - the bill was €19.70!!!! - far too much for what received. Based on this experience I doubt if we will go back there in the near future, which is a shame.

“Worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013 via mobile

Dropped in with some friends on a wet Saturday afternoon, tempted by the menu posted outside.
After a short wait for a table (we perused the menu while waiting), we were seated.
Service was excellent throughout our visit - we all agreed it was the best service we'd experienced in any eaterie both in Galway and further afield, in months.
We opted for a mixture of items from the menu including sweet potato fries (divine!), goats cheese salad, quesadilla and sandwiches, all of which were substantial in size and utterly delicious. Clean plates all round!
Sadly, we had no room for dessert on this occasion, but that just means a return visit will be on the cards asap!!!

“Breakfast”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013 via mobile

One of the easiest meals to produce to a very high standard is the Irish Breakfast. Not in McCambridges. I left thinking it was a poor enough breakfast, average at very best, having paid €9.95 for it. When driving home I realised they charged an extra €2.40 for coffee or tea, it became one of the worst value meals ive ever had. Here's what you get for €12.35: 1 small "artisan" sausage, 2 overdone rashers, 2 poached eggs with hard yolks, 2 slices of cold toast, about 16 "homemade" baked beans, 1 black and 1 white pudding on a potato farl.
Of 5 who had breakfast, 4 of us left very unhappy.
