in most touristy type of areas, the boardwalk (or promenade) is populated by cheap and tacky buildings or on the beach cafes which really violate the beauty, not here. There are some rather ugly buildings on the other side but between you and the sea is nothing! So start in town close to the Spanish Arch, walk over the bridge away from town and take a sharp left after crossing the bridge. You will be walking along the canal, just keep walking straight and you will be on a road that will then take a sharp right hand turn. Keep following that road and you will soon see the bay on your left. Once you intersect with a main road and can go no further, take a left and keep walking. You will then be on the main part of the promenade. If you want to stop in for a coffee, you will see the Aquarium on your right and underneath is a coffee place called Arabica. When you come to the roundabout, stay straight for the rest of the promenade or turn up to the right for the small centre of salthill. There is a microbrewery there (that serves food) Oslo and a really nice restaurant/wine bar call BlackCat (Oslo on left and BlackCat on right). If you continue walking straight by the sea, you will come up to some small beaches and there is one place called Dodo and Badger that is a small place that sells coffee/icecream which is the only thing doing any business actually on the beach side. It is only open seasonally (and when the sun is out). ENJOY
