“Small museum - but FREE, so no complaints!”
Review of Galway City Museum

This small museum in downtown Galway is free. It has some ancient history and information on the first floor, while the second floor has boating history mainly regarding Galway Bay. The top floor has changing exhibits, however, during low season the top floor is closed, so I didn't get to go up there.

NO ENTRANCE FEE for a glimpse into the history of this lovely city, this I found to be a great benefit! Artifacts, paintings and tapestries centuries old with a written description of each. The museum is larger than it looks with 3 floors of beautiful art displayed. An enjoyable stop!

Food is only ok and really overpriced - although it is in a lovely building and has a nice and relaxed atmosphere

I have been in Galway many times over the years and never knew this place existed. Spent about an hour there on a cold wet day. The top floor was closed when we visited, but well worth spending an hour or two there.

The Kitchen at the Galway City Museum is a must for a lazy breakfast or lunch. The presentation of the food up on the counter far too inviting. The coffee is good too. As for the museum...the Galway Hooker (Not what you're thinking...it's a boat) that hangs from the ceiling is a beautiful testament to the fishermen from the Claddagh just across the river from the museum.
