I have visited many of the world's great cathedrals, including St. Peter's in Rome, Notre Dame, Chartres, Westminster Abbey, etc, so unfortunately, this one pales in comparison. There are pieces and parts in the interior which are lovely, but taken as a whole, I have to agree with another reviewer who found the place depressing. I didn't get the same sense of awe and peace I've felt at other cathedrals. The exterior is a huge disappointment. It is completey surrounded by roads and the rear, where I would have expected to find a charming garden/cemetary, was a huge car park with area for a fleet of motor coaches. I did, by all means, enjoy the silhouette of the cathedral in the context of our walk through Galway (we spent all morning just wandering), but can't really recommend this as a place for someone to go out of their way to visit, unless you have sentimental attachments to it for some reason.
