“Very Poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2007

Stayed 2 nights last weekend. Wasn't impressed, wouldn't reccommend it. Stayed on the 2nd floor. Lift was out of order for the whole weekend. Bedroom was big but had a musty unpleasant damp smell, carpet and bedding was stained, curtains didn't close properly. Lots of road noise all the time as the windows were old and not sealing properly when closed. Room was FREEZING cold, even though radiator was on full and bathroom was ARTIC. Decor was shabby and jaded. Staff were pleasant when we asked for anything but never followed through. Asked for an ironing board and iron, waited almost an hour, went to ask again and found 1 in next hallway so took that. Waited a long time for our breakfasts after ordering and both mornings had to ask for our toast, took 20mins for toast to come which was 1 slice of warm bread each. Vegetarian hot breakfast was served with black and white pudding?? Internet site says there's a nightclub there, was closed when we got there, only open wednesday nights. Ate dinner in bar one night, bland pub menu, nothing special. Ordered fish off the specials board, SWIMMING in grease, very off putting. Ideally situated, 2 mins walk to centre of town, apart from location I don't have anything good to say about it. Price wasn't budget but the standard was. Doesn't deserve a 3 star rating.

Simple rooms, good location. Service at desk was lacking - missed a couple of wake up calls. Watch out for Wednesday nights - the bar below has a dance night and the music is loud and you just might not get a wink of sleep if you stay on this night.

Great Location...just 3 steps from Eyre Square. Hotel average - not bad - can be quite noisy - we were at a party (friends enagagment ) and didn't get back to the hotel until about 3am - but it was still very noisy.

Fine if you are going for a night out in galway - if you are looking for a quiet hotel with good facilities - stay somewhere else.

Room clean and a good size. Had room service breakfast the next morning - not bad - bacon was a little overcooked. Has a big bar - quite lively.

Parking is around the corner - about a 5 minute walk - costs €8.50 for 24hours - but you must get your tickey stamped by the hotel.

At first glance, sure this hotel looks nice. Do not be misled! I stayed here for one night (that's all I could take.) My room was not very clean, the smell of cigarettes permeated everything. And forget the night club! All the noises from the street outside could be heard. The windows by no means blocked the sound. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, etc. etc. etc. My advice is stay at the Park House Hotel which is right next door. Thousands of times better, and not much more in price. But that's another review.

First, let me warn you. Don't stay here!
Second, if you do stay here don't expect to get any sleep until after at least 3am. The "disco" in the "bar" plays music so loud that you have to shout to be heard by anyone else in your own hotel room. The stream of revelers that spills into the street after the bar closes at 2am can be heard yelling and screaming until around 3.

While the food in the restaurant is passable, it's served by all non-English speaking staff, so don't bother asking any questions or trying to request something that has been overlooked.

Needless to say, our group checked out after the first night, which seems to be typical of almost all guests who book here.

Too bad, because the location is tremendous and the accommodations, while dated, are quite serviceable.

Thankfully, this was the only exception out of 7 nights of wonderful Irish hospitality. The Eyre Square just needs to decide which business it's in. If bar/disco is the thing, they should just convert the hotel to office space that doesn’t need quiet at night.

  • Liked — nothing stood out
  • Disliked — way too noisy for anyone to even be able to try to sleep

We stayed in this hotel recently in room 315 and i must say first impressions this hotel is ideal- friendly staff, good sized rooms and brilliant location. Another bonus was that we got the room for E150 for 1 nightv stay ( cheaper than advertised on the website). The only major fault with this hotel was the smell in the room the next morning..it was a damp smell coming up from behind the locker and i honestly couldn't shower the next morning becase of the smell in the bathroom. We actually checked out early the next morning because of this. But apart from this my stay would of being perfect. Very reasonable, good location.

Stayed here mid week for two nights.Staff extremely friendly on arrival. Room was small but adequate and very clean. Bottled water given for brushing teeth. Bed changed both nights. Breakfast was lovely the staff came to seat and serve you almost as soon as you walked in the door. Excellent location also. If you want a reasonable hotel id definitely recommend this hotel and ignore the bad reviews.
