“A wonderful experience from start to finish”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

My husband as a mother's day gift, treated my mother and myself to 3 nights B&B and 1 evening meal in this wonderful quaint hotel. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist (Barbara, I think is her name). She was so cheerful and welcoming and made us feel right at ‘home’ before we even saw our room. We left the reception with smiles on our faces as we went to our room. We were taking in all the wonderful character and charm of the hotel as we walked the corridors to our room. The decor is spotless and is in perfect keeping with this charming hotel.

Our twin room (316) was very spacious with a double and single bed. The room was bright, airy and a cosy warmth greeted us upon entering the room. The room over looked the beautifully kept gardens with tree lined paths enticing to be explored. Although it was cold outside we were lucky with the weather and with the sunlight that flooded our room all day long. The en-suite bathroom was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with lots of toiletries and fresh towels. The bathtub was lovely and deep so you could totally submerge yourself. The chamber maids were so, so friendly yet maintaining a professional cleaning service.

The restaurant offered an amazing buffet breakfast with a great variety of cereals, pastries, fruit, juices along with freshly cooked meats, eggs, mushrooms etc. The only thing I would suggest would be to provide some tray’s seeing it is a self service buffet, as some of the plates were extremely hot to handle and a tray would have made a huge difference. The restaurant itself was spacious with enough tables and enough room to move around and well laid out. As we dined we looked out across the terrace outside and into the beautiful manicured gardens.

We dined in Blazers Bar for our evening meals because the restaurant was not open in the evenings for dining. Although Blazers bar was lovely and both bar and waiting staff were wonderful, friendly and accommodating, we would have preferred to have eaten our meals in the restaurant as it felt more ambient. Blazers Bar was however comfortable but felt more casual dining rather than a more reserved dining experience. Once again the food was superb with a nice choice of dishes to choose from.

The leisure club was also very good. The pool was a little on the chilly side on all 3 occasions we used it, but well maintained and as in keeping with the rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean, with friendly staff. The Jacuzzi was wonderful and so spacious and unusual in its design but I will leave that pleasant surprise for the next guest to discover. All the facilities were wonderful and well kept.

There is nothing and I mean nothing we could honestly say bad about this hotel, its management or the exceptionally friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Ardilaun Hotel and we plan to return again to this wonderful hotel with all its charm. On behalf of my mother and myself, we HIGHLY recommend this hotel to stay and dine in. Well done to all management and staff, you truly made our holiday, thank you :)

Dear Lorraine,

Thank you so very much for your wonderful and detailed review.

We are so happy to know that you enjoyed your well deserved mothers day gift - what a very thoughtful gift to receive.

Feedback is always very important to receive and is valued. We are reknowned for our 'friendliness', in addition to many other qualities of our hotel, being a family owned and managed hotel for over 50 years now.

Thank you again and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Warmest Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

We stayed in the Ardilaun Thurs to Sunday early March 2013 . We found the hotel to be very good with the food both in the bar and the restaurant to be excellent as we tried both . It was a busy hotel with small conferences on site all weekend and two weddings which seem to take over the reception area and bar and we found it difficult to get service both evenings. This i pointed out to reception after ten minutes waiting for a drink as the two barmen failed to look up as they moved around the bar. I did not get any satisfaction.
It might have been a once off problem but they seemed to have had practice with it, which we found very dissapointing.
The Hotel itself is a good walk from the city but a bus service can be had outside the hotel, and taxis can be ordered from reception.
It was a nice weekend but we will not be using this hotel again !

Room Tip: Third floor on corner overlooking the Garden .

Dear Martin,

Thank you so much for having stayed with us recently and for your lovely comments following your stay.

Of course, we are very disappointed to read of your bar service experience and we would like to sincerely apologise for this. I can assure you that this is certainly not the norm. We regularly have large weddings here at the hotel but, at all times, it is very important to us that each guest in the hotel is completely happy with their stay - including those who may not be attending an event taking place in the hotel. We are truely sorry. Your feedback in relation to bar service has been brought to the attention of our bar supervisor and has been addressed. Thank you for your feedback which is important for us to be made aware of.

We hope that you will reconsider and will return to stay with us again at some point in the future.

Best Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

Recently booked the Ardilaun for a family occassion having been there before decided it would be the ideal venue for this occassion, we were not disappointed, we stayed 3 days with 2 dinner, the staff from the minute we made the reservation (Kate Coleman) and her team were so professional and could not do enough, they even arranged a cake for the party on the saturday night. The meal in the main restaurant was excellent a 4 course meal, and the kids option is excellent. The bistro for lunch was excellent on the sunday. We also managed to get to use the leisure which is very kid friendly and the lobby of the hotel is ideal to chill out. Overall it was a great experience, and great value, all of our group of 15 totally enjoyed the break, well done to all, and we'll be back.

Room Tip: We had a family room and it was spacious with a single, king and fold out bed which our 5 year old l...

We booked the Ardilaun for a second year in a row when attending a school sport event in Galway. Our fairly large group included parents, teachers, coach, granparents and children ranging in age from 15mths to 15yrs. The staff at the Ardilaun were more than helpful from the time we made the first contact to enquire about availability and cost right through to when we checked out after our stay. The accommodation, food, service, child friendliness, comfort and helpful staff made our stay extremely enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Galway.

Had lunch in the bar today, picked a bad day as hotel very busy with confirmation and a school conference. Confirmation lunches were in a separate room, bar was busy not much staff on,we sat an uncleared table. After some time waitress arrived to clear it, I said "may we have menus when you are ready please, her response was "when I am ready. When we got menus were told only 2 chicken left and silverside of corned beef,we were
also advised of soup of the day. When waitress came back to take order she said"chicken is gone". One of my friends asked
can we have the menu from the confirmation parties we were told that is a different kitchen . We ordered from the day bar menu which was good and food tasted lovely. It was a pity there was not a better selection of mains courses,we have dined here before and felt waitress was not pleasant or friendly.

Dear 'Bawnogue',

Thank you for your review. Feedback is very important to us and is always welcomed.

We are very sorry to hear that your Ardilaun experience yesterday was disappointing and would like to sincerely apologise to you.

Yesterday was an exceptionally busy day here at the hotel. Unfortunately it would not have been possible to offer the dining room lunch menu in the bistro but, that said, once dishes were no longer available from our bistro menu alternatives should have been offered to you which is the normal service.

Thank you so much for your very king comments in relation to the food which you had - we are delighted that you enjoyed it.

We would very much appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in person in relation to your review. If you feel that you would like to do so, please call the hotel at a time convenient to you and ask for the duty manager.

Thank you again and we hope that we will speak with you soon.

Best Regards,
The Ardilaun Team

We booked this hotel having looked through what pet-friendly accommodation was available in Ireland for a weekend away. There aren't that many to choose from but thankfully the Ardilaun met all our requirements! We had a ground floor room with double doors opening up onto an enclosed garden area which was great to allow us to facilitate the necessary doggie toilet breaks without having to go through the hotel so other guests were not disturbed by us having a dog! A little leaflet with suitable walks and vet numbers etc. was left in our room which was very useful and a nice touch. Our room was also accessible via the underground car-park so again it meant we weren't putting in on any others as we came and went with our dog. The room was lovely and clean and had the very welcome tea making facilities in the room which may seem a given...but not all places provide this so its a tick in their favour! We ate in hotel restaurant on one evening - lovely meal; menu a little limited but portions are very generous! Staff on duty were very efficient and prompt. No delays. breakfast was standard buffet. While the dining room was never full, staff seemed a little overwhelmed at breakfast time insofar as we had a 10 minute wait to be seated on the Sunday morning ~ more than half the tables were vacant but many not cleaned or cleared but not re-set. Also they seemed to regularly run out of glasses at the juice station. Not a huge deal. Food itself was fine and dining room itself is lovely and bright and airy. Overall, we enjoyed our stay - first time away with our young dog so we were really happy that the room met our requirements and made for a really nice weekend away so that was everything we wanted. Thumbs up.
