We arrived in Galway and were looking for a pint and ended up having a excellent lunch here. Prices are great. Fish & chips are perfectly crisp and delicious!! I need to mention, that there is a "historical fish & chips place" in town I won't name any names, but I will say we did try both places for fish & chips and let me tell you Garvey's fish & chips beat theirs by far!!!! We also tried the soup of the day here, it was fresh, creamy, warm and good. Garvey's is a wonderfully traditional, open but dark, elegant, cozy and inviting pub. The bartender was attentive, but not pushy. The prices are reasonable. Really enjoyable place, I recommend it completely. I believe it belongs in the top 10 of Galway pubs.

I had a nice yellow spot wiskey + smoked samlon salad. Contrary to the suggestion on the card this was not a whole meal. The taste / combination was superb. The "green part" of the salad was good (if you compare it to other Irish restaurants and - alas - poor when you compare it to Belgian/French/Spanish/Portugues/Italian cuisine). In general the Irish have a mile to go to master this part of the cuisine.

There is a lovely traditional feel about this pub. The staff were welcoming and service quick. Unfortunately the beer i got was sour but staff changed it straight away no bother.

There was a trad group playing in the pub. There were excellent and played at a nice level where you could hear them and still be able to chat to others also.

Stopped in here to escape some of the crowds during the Volvo Ocean Race Finale. The pub was very busy and the restaurant side was fairly busy but there was only 1 waitress on. Although she was very busy she was cheerful and attentive. The food was okay. The 12 inch pizza was very good and large enough to share. The beef burger was just okay - fairly bland. The sirloin steak was very small and the sides served with it were also very small - a few chips and some salad. Overall the food was just okay - it was expensive considering the portion size and quality. The atmosphere is fine and families with small children would be comfortable here. For the price, there are better options for dining in Galway.
