Our recent stay at Sli Na Mara was wonderful. This was our first stop after arriving on a transatlantic flight and Bridie's home and hospitality allowed us to relax and recover quickly. Despite being fully booked during both nights of our stay, the home was quiet and comfortable. The location was nice - easy and safe 10-15 minute walk into the center of Galway. And, the breakfast was enjoyable! Bridie is a great host!!

Room Tip: All rooms were nice, but the third floor (3-person) room and bathroom were very comfortable

If you are thinking about staying at a B&B in Galway and are confused at the hundreds of choices, this review is for you! My wife and I just recently spent a few nights in Galway and stayed at the wonderful Sli Na Mara B&B in the Salthill section just west of town. Bridie Thomson was our attentive and charming host, and worked hard to make sure our stay was very enjoyable. The B&B itself has modest rooms in terms of size, but were more than adequate with super-comfortable beds and very clean and charming decor.

What made this B&B so perfect above all this was the LOCATION, and this is a very important considering when staying in Galway. There are basic three types of locations: the city center, on its perimeter, and in most directions outside of town, particularly along Galway bay and its many inlets. For our taste, the city center, while wonderful to visit, is a bit too busy and noisy in the evening to be an ideal place to sleep. On the other extreme are the many B&B's along the bay which offer stunning vistas but are convenient to pretty much nothing - you need to drive to get anywhere, which means perpetually hunting for parking. Sli Na Mara is just 10 min walk to town, yet sits in a quiet cul-de-sac where one can keep the windows open in the summer nights and smell the bay breeze.

Bridie helped to make our stay in Galway very special, and we would choose Sli Na Mara whenever we return again!

Bridie and Walter are terrific B and B hosts! They are professional, yet manage a warm and friendly atmosphere. The house is quiet. It is a short walk to the city center, or you can take a cab. The room is clean and fresh. I stayed in a small room with a double bed. The bathroom is a good size for a b and b in Ireland. Nice hot water with good pressure in the shower in the morning.

Lovely B&B in a nice quiet location. The room was comfortable, the location is removed enough from the busy city center for a nice quiet's night sleep, but still within walking distance to the pubs. We rented a car the second day we were there and drove around Connemara (beautiful!), and we had no problems parking. I will definitely return again.

I'm a regular visitor to Galway and having family here I am lucky enough to stay with them. However for this trip a number of family members were visiting and I had to look elsewhere.
I contacted numerous establishments - many failed to respond, some confused my request to stay with an offer to pay their mortgage (so exorbitant were their rates) and one 'host' (highly rated on this site) advised me that she wasn't bothering to reply to emails because she was 'too busy''.
Then I contacted Sli na Mara.... how refreshing to find young hosts who still possess charm, good manners and an understanding of hospitality!
Sli na Mara is perfectly appointed with ample free parking on site.On the edge of the famous 'Claddagh', it is a short walk from the bustle of the city centre.
Bedrooms are ensuite and comfortable. The decor is fresh and lends itself to the atmosphere of a well loved home rather than a well used business.
Breakfasts are satisfying and Bridie ensures that guests have a constant flow of tea/coffee and toast!
Finding a great bed and breakfast should be easy - alas it is not, especially in the current economic climate and in the wake of the 'Celtic Tiger'.
Thankfully Sli na Mara -in the safe hands of this young couple, -demonstrates that Irish hospitality does exist and it is not at the expense of the unsuspecting tourist.

We originally were booked for a night at the Kilcullen House but the owners there inexplicably gave away our room before we arrived. Thankfully, they did try to do right by us by booking us a room nearby, at Sli Na Mara.

We were in somewhat of a flustered state when we arrived (it was a long day, and we were still seething at the other B&B) but the folks at this place were very kind to us and didn't mind our 8:30 p.m. arrival. The room felt very new and was super-clean, the bed was comfortable and there was a nice little TV. The traditional Irish breakfast was good, too.

Additionally, the couple that ran the inn (George and Bridie were their names, I believe) were very friendly and eager to help us with recommendations on a place to eat in Galway and with our planning of a visit to the Aran Islands the next morning. The B&B is a little outside the center city, but it still wasn't more of a 15 minute or so walk to the main square. We definitely recommend it.

My partner and I stayed at this B&B during the the last weekend of Galways Volvo Ocean Race. The location (5 min walk from the city) was perfect for us as we traveled down by train leaving the car at home.

The business is a new venture for the couple running the B&B but you wouldnt know it, we were made to feel very welcome on arrival and offered advice on things to do during the Ocean Race weekend. Having been to Galway lots of times we declined and set about enjoying all the festival.

The rooms were comfortable with lots of space and the wireless was handy for checking emails, the information concerning the Ocean Race in the rooms was a nice touch too! Breakfast was enjoyable and easy going as our host was full of chat.

All in all a good experience had!
