Description: As a family we have lived and worked on Quay street since 1902 and have a long history of looking after customers with Martine having worked in Margaret Mc Donagh fish shop across the road (McDonagh's Seafood Bar) at a very young age. This tradition was passed on to my brother and I, as we too worked with our mother in her restaurant preparing and serving food. Our family tradition and Galway's Great trading ties with other countries have seeped into the bones of our restaurant and greatly influence everything we do. We believe in local Irish produce prepared simply using traditional and modern techniques from home and around the world.

Four of us walked in for dinner quite late by Galway standards, 10:45pm. However we were seated within 15 minutes. We ordered amazing amazing food, it was fresh and delicious. The wine list was fantastic and the atmosphere totally cozy and cute. I will definitely be back when visiting Galway! Thanks!

“Terrible service and shafted!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Had booked a table with friends here recently as we were in Galway for the weekend. Table booked but when we arrived we were told the previous customers were finishing their desserts. No problem (we thought!!). Didn't not get seated for 90 mins after!! They had given our table away...how sly!!
We were given free appetisers to satisfy us at the bar.
The bar 'woman' was in fact a waitress and not trained properly (not her fault). She was just following orders and was not able to make cocktails and forgot some of the orders also.
When we finally received our main courses, the staff did not know who ordered which meal, and when asked, were not able to establish the different size in steaks. We were left to sort out the 9oz from the 12 oz steaks. Another friend asked for no mushrooms and they received a whole lot of mushrooms!! Simply not good enough and unprofessional. At E29.50 for a steak, you expect a whole lot better. When one of the 'medium' steak's was returned for futher cooking it came back rear!!! Unbelievable.

Too many corners being skipped here and the cost is so expensive. Very poor!!
So disappointed - Night ruined.
Would not recommend.

“Fabulous food”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

An absolutely fabulous restaurant located in the heart of Galway. Ate here on Saturday while in Galway for the weekend. Despite being very heavily booked we managed to get a reservation for Saturday evening at 7pm. We didn't order a starter, just main course and dessert. We both ordered the Chicken Supreme and it was supreme! :D Was thrilled with the place. The food was delicious and dessert was brilliant also. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I am really glad we stumbled on Martine's, its fabulous. Dinner for 2 (main course x2, dessert x2, a glass of white wine and a pint of Heineken) was 52 euro. Was a steal for the exceptionally high standard of food. Its' excellent. We will be returning to Martine's for sure. This restaurant opens in the evenings from 5pm. I would recommend making a reservation at busy times. The phone number is on the front door.

“Excellent food and staff.”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

I had a meal here with my girlfriend near the end of January. We choose it for no particular reason; I think just to get out of the wind and rain. We were welcomed and seated. The waiter done all the usual and then spoke well about their specials and was very friendly and helpful. After a while we decided and had two beautiful starters, a rockfort tartlet and a goat’s cheese salad.

After that I had the most wonderful steak I have ever eaten, with lovely home chips (fries) and fried mushrooms and onions. The other main was scallops with black pudding and was also absolutely delicious. We spoke to the owner at length, I presume Martine, and she was very nice.

The entire experience was an absolute pleasure and I would definitely go back. Highly recommended.
