Awesome! Very quiet and peaceful base for our Ireland countyside day trips. Our hosts were great; knowledgeable, gracious and accomodating. Great, great spot. Our family (7 adults) would recommend it to anyone wanting a great Ireland countryside experience. Take a look at www.rosscastle.com

13 of us rented 4 of the "apartments" as self-catering, but arranged to have several dinners and every breakfast cooked for us. We arranged to have breakfast ready at 8am every morning and it was always on time, also dinners were all on time and excellent. The accommodations were nice and the property beautiful! The gardens and grounds are just spectacular. Also our hosts Elizabeth and George were just delightful and very pleasant to work with. Elizabeth went above and beyond my expectations. The group of us travel yearly usually renting large properties as self catering, with supplemented meals and again Elizabeth and her staff went above and beyond. The dinners they prepared, 4 courses, were excellent, they use only the freshest ingredients and get many things from their own garden. The Home Made Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookies were in a word Yummy! If we go back to Ireland we will go back to Ross Castle.

We used the Castle as a central point for our fundraising event, we made cycling and walking trips out into the countryside and back, the location was perfect. The group raise dmore than $35,000.00 for Children with AIDS and Breast Cancer Organizations. Additional information on the group and out trips can be found at www.rfac.org

Just returning from a 10 day visit to Ireland and one of the highlights was our two nights at Ross Castle. We were a party of 12 people and stayed in the St. George Cottage. Our host George and Elizabeth McLaughlin were most generous and if you are lucky you will get invited for Tea and Cookies. The accommodations were exceptional and included warm towels in the bathroom and face cloths that you so very rarely see in Europe. If you are looking for an experience stay at Ross Castle the next time you are in Galway.

I stayed in Ross Castle with a group of friends in March last year and had a wonderful time. The owners were lovely - very welcoming and accomodating. They were very helpful in arranging our stay, arranging a minibus to bring us into Galway city (about 20 minutes' drive away) and recommending a lovely restaurant in Moycullen.

We had rented all the apartments on one side of the courtyard, which was perfect for what we needed. There were two big, cosy living rooms, which were big enough for us all to sit around and relax or to have breakfast together. But we had enough space in the apartments that everyone could go and have some quiet time for themselves.

The grounds are beautiful. We went for a walk to clear our heads on Sunday morning and fed the swans on the lake! We were invited to use the tennis courts, but didn't quite feel up to it! We did use the pool, which has a beautiful view out over the lake and the woods.

I would definitely recommend Ross Castle for a get together with family or friends. A big thumbs up!

A group of 35 of us rented out the cottages for two nights in April on a bed and breakfast basis. We were all so excited to get there and experience the beautiful gardens and see what beauties the property had to offer.
However we were all make very unwelcome there right from the begining.
We were told the we could not check in until 4pm on the day we arrived which is rather late ( espeicalyl after a transatlantic flight) but we figuered it would be fine. However it was well after 5pm when we were shown to our rooms. Which would be understandable if the rooms had been occupied the night before but they had not, the accomodation had been empty. One of the couples had a 3 month old baby to feed and change and were left sitting in their car untl after 5pm which was very distressing for them. Meanwhile the rest of us had to hang around outside for well over an hour until we could get to our rooms. Alot of us had flown in from the US the day before so this didnt help our jet lag!
The gardens were spectacular and the rooms beautifully presented and kitchens very well equiped.
However, we were all woken on the second morning by the lady of the house ringing the bell out in the garden at 8.30 am calling us to get up for breakfast which we all found quite obtrusive. We are all adults and can decide for oursel ves if we want to get up for breakfast or not! Then at 9.30 she acutally walked into one of the rooms where people were sleeping, telling them they had to get up and be out of the property at 10am! In one of the cottages the cleaners were in the living rooms before 10am cleaning the place before our group had even left their rooms ( the agreed checkout time was 10am).
Not what you expect from any type of accomodation self catering or not!
The manner in which us "paying customers" were treated was really abhorent. A bench one of our group sat on broke underneath him. When we discussed it with the owner she told us it had been repaired after being already broken the previous year ( so in effectit was alreadyfaulty), however she still took money out of our deposit for the previously damaged bench!
Once again beautiful rooms and gardens but if you are renting the accomodation dont bank on having your privacy!!
