“A hidden treasure”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

I have visited this tiny chapel a number of times over the years. It was open during the summer of heritage last year, so I visited it again. We had a very interesting guide who told us all about it. If you get a group together Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown Co. Co. will open it for you.
Every space is painted by the nun in Celtic designs like something out of the book of Kells, walls and ceiling. It was her life's work. The work is magic!
The building is protected by a larger one built over it, just like Stalin's family house in Gori, Georgia (but not in marble!)
Not that many people seem to know about it, and it is well worth a visit.

“A hidden gem”

This is a really special, utterly unique wee place. It is worth going to a great deal of trouble to find it. But now FULL MARKS to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown with their commitment, especially during summer months, to guided tours on the Summer of Heritage tours

“Celtic chapel”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

All quilters and makers of Irish Step Dancing costumes need to see this site! I took by husband and four children there--all were enthralled! This tiny chapel is on the school grounds of a convent school; just walk through the iron gate and up to the school. The outside is nothing, but the inside is amazing! The design work is mesmerizing! And the detail is phenomenal! This nun has painted every square inch of this small, but very worthwhile oratory. Yes, I have made quilts based on these designs. I recommend the easy train ride from Dublin. The lady at the school was happy to unlock the door to let us in. We could also buy some copies of the art work. While you are there, buy the best macaroon in the world at the small bakery at the quay.

“Do not miss this”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

The Oratory was nearly knocked down but thank goodness it was saved. Run by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council and the opening times are far and few between but if you can visit then do so because although small it is so worth a visit. The staff are extremely nice and very informative. The Oratory was painted over about a 20 year period by one nun and it is truly stunning to see.
