“Very Homely”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2013

I really liked staying in Tara Hall. Margaret and the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was freshly made and not lying around like in other bigger hotels. It was very warm and homely and near all amenities. I liked the feel of the house with all it´s history and character. Thank you and as Schwarzenegger said " I´ll be back!". Wendy Spain.

Little to say other than very dated and tired, bathroom grubby. Owners obviously never drink coffee it was about the worst I've ever had. Breakfast obviously cooked then reheated, slices of toast chucked at you virtually. Payed for by my company ( who tend to go for cheap!). Awful

I am not by nature a complainer and truly try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was the most terrible B&B experience I had during my entire stay in Ireland. Margaret seemed put off by having guests, which is pretty odd for someone in the hospitality industry. The place is old, the room smelled musty and the level of cleanliness was poor. Very peculiar place and unfriendly lady of the house. Cannot stress enough that you do not want to stay here.

Booked for 5 nights & checked out after one - For retro nights this place could be a real hit BUT only at retro prices - A good breakfast stopped it being absolutely terrible - room and bed was shocking, shower room really poor - repainting in progress - but needs The Full Monty to get any of its glory back . Its a real pity because this property is in the right place and is a wonderful piece of Dublin architecture.

Stayed on business as on the face of things it looked like a good vfm place for a one night stay but I was so wrong. It gave me the impression of a 1950's institution with very basic bedrooms and a bathroom that was beyond belief but not in a positive way. There were three rows of cream tiles just above the bath and the shower was operated from a really old broken and worn mixer tap. There was the smallest bar of soap I have ever seen and no shampoo. It looks like the owners bought a job lot of cream paint as its everywhere and looks so old fashioned. The dining room walls are of the stucco plaster type but the white pant is grubby and the whole room very dark. The muesli was almost inedible and the toast on the crispy side which was not a great start to the day. The free wifi was intermittent and the tv very limited in its channel choices.

Overall it wasn't an experience I would like to repeat and even though it was only 65 Euro it can't be said to be vfm. It's a place that would benefit from a total redecoration and refurbishment but until then I wouldn't want to experience it again.

Do not stay here receptionist was extremely rude and unhelpful, complete disregard for the guests. We had booked in for 10 pm we arrive ten minutes late, we knocked on the door no answer then we rang the hotel and a very rude chap answered the phone we explained that we were outside and to answer the door he refused to as he said we were late and he had finished work at ten. In the end we had to drive to the city centre to find a hotel. Would not recommend the place at all, lucky we didn't as the reviews are terrible.

Hi stayed in Tara hall just before Christmas. It is a standard enough bed and breakfast but the history of this old building is amazing. It was built in 1800 and was for many years used as a school. It was the residence of monk gibbon a famous Irish writer and poet. Some of his books are on display in dining room. It is said that WB Yeats who was a cousin of monk gibbins used to visit Tara hall when in Dublin.
The property is well run and margaret the manager has great knowledge of the area. Some of James Joyce's Ulysses is based on the area. Tara hall is within 50 metres walk of the sea and a visit to the forty foot is a must .this used to be a gentlemen only bathing place. A very good breakfast was served and rooms were clean and bright. I will be back.
