There was a time when you couldnt get a table without a reservation, in this fab little restaurant. I was surprised to find that we had no problem getting a table for 4 last night, it being a busy Saturday night elsewhere.
Having sampled the food and service however I understand why.
As a creature of a habit I ordered the previously divine lamb burger. I also asked for it to be well well done. Instead of the delicious lamb burgers of old, I was served a very very strange processed "thing" that was far from delish.
The steaks for my 3 dining companions were all great apparently but the potato and chips were not.
The waitress who served us clearly didnt want to be in work last night and was far from attentive. In a half-full restaurant that's hardly ideal. No eye contact whatsoever. And this was across the board - i.e. we werent getting any 'special treatment'. Another waitress assisted us thankfully and was the one we tipped.
Sad to say all 4 of us agree that The Larder is most definitely off our list of places to eat for the forseeable future. A big big disapointment. Particularly as these guys used to have it so right.
