We arrived at Joburger and we stood in the doorway waiting for a waiter - couldn't tell who they were as they don't wear a uniform or any kind of apron to signify that they work there.
Eventually we were seated, given menus and then just left alone. It took forever for someone to come and take our order, so we chatted between the four of us. All of a sudden the music was cranked up so loud that we couldn't hear the conversation (we aren't oldies either and we all enjoy a good song). A waiter eventually came and took our order all though it was almost impossible to scream at them to tell them what we wanted. We asked him to turn the music down which he did. Our meals then took a really long time to arrive and again the music was cranked up so loud that we again had to ask if they could turn the music down to which we were told (conversation went as follows:)
"sorry we aren't allowed to as it's part of our thing"
"it's part of our restaurant experience, loud music, beers, and burgers"
"but it was quieter before and we can't actually have a conversation"
"sorry but we aren't allowed to"
I thought going to a restaurant was to enjoy the company of the people you are eating with and be able to talk. This is a restaurant not a club.
Food arrived and it was ok, nothing really to write about, all though they were huge - so big in fact you have to dismantle your burger to be able to eat it.
Apart from the really slow service, we had been enjoying our meal until the music was put up. The ambiance was ok and we were having a great time talking, but with the music it soon got to the point where none of us spoke and we practically asked for the bill before we had finished eating so that we could get out of there and talk again. We didn't leave a tip because well a tip means you get good service and good food but everything was so so.
If you want to go - eat outside as you'll be able to talk to your mates and be able to enjoy the music, but inside I wouldn't bother.
