La cave has a really great atmosphere. It's small but quite cozy and a great spot if you enjoy your wine!! One bonus is that it is late night opening. The food is tasty.....nice cheese board and bread baskets that go really perfect with a nice glass of wine, although the selection of cheeses could be extended a little!. The price list of the wine is varied - something to suit everyone's pocket. Great little spot in the middle of the city!!

It's been years since I was in La Cave. I first went there in the mid '90s as a guest of someone whose choice of restaurant was his saving grace! This evening we were celebrating something and the husband had suggested La Cave. We arrived at about 6.30pm and there was no problem getting a table for three. The basement was as I remembered it - cosy and casual - and we were presented with three different menus (mainly variations on a theme). The husband had pheasant to start (a little dry, he thought), I had baked goat's cheese (very well accompanied by honey and walnuts), and the 12-year-old had snails (a sophisticated choice for a child of that age and he loved them). The main courses were venison stew (the husband loved it - rich, tender and tasty), duck (succulent) and sirloin steak (the child devoured it). The husband was underwhelmed by his cheese plate, but the child and I enjoyed our creme brulees, despite the insufficient burnt sugar topping. The service was good. Three courses for the three of us, a diet cola and a carafe of South African pinotage came to €118. Good value, good service and good atmosphere enhanced by the Frank Sinatra soundtrack. I hope to go back sooner rather than later. The wine-tasting evenings may be what it takes!
