“Bad service!”
Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

Yesterday i went to the restaurant alone, in the beginning everything is fine, after order the starter and main course, i didnt order any wine, at that moment onward the service suddently change, the staffs didnt border me much as compare to other customers, i can clearly see how nice they treat other customers, smile and explain in details to them, maybe they spend more as compare to me, they just ignore me in the corner, once passed me the food they will immediately walk away, not even want to talk to me further, I feel very diasspointed. At the end i want to leave and asked for bill, the manager brought the credit card machine and walked toward me, he impatiently said please read the machine message and click the right button accordingly, i doubt and read the message and find out he actually asked for tips! But sorry, based on the service provided, i clicked NO! After that, i can cleary see his unhappy face. Honestly the food is normal and dont put to high expectation on it, if you just plan to spend less in the restaurant, you might face the same problem as me. i had tried different restaurants in Dublin, they all are very nice, but definitely not this restaurant! I will not come again!

“Nice Traditional Place. Food only OK”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

This is a nice romantic little French Restaurant. Like what restaurants used to be, white table clothes, traditional decor. It has a charm about it. The waiters speaking French all adds to it.
Tables are a little cramped but not too much. Service is excellent and it is all a bit special and feels like a meal out should feel.
The menu is ok. I got soup for starters and steak for main course. And this is kinda where it let itself down. The soup was luke warm at best. It was nice but it wasnt hot. Because of how nice the waiters were and how nice the place was, I didnt mind so much and ate it and it was fine.
My main was ok as well. The chips that came with the steak werent exactly hot either and the sauce over it, again was coldish in places. The steak piece itself was very small. It tasted ok, nothing amazing.
My wife got the fish of the day which was cod and she was disapointed with it. It was properly cold she said. She was going to ask for it heated and we would never really do this because dont like to complain but such was how cold it was, that she felt like she should but in the end didnt. I dont think there is any excuse really for a place not to serve the food hot. It was disapointing. Again she felt there could have been more as well and we were both still a bit hungry after so got dessert too.
The desserts were excellent. i got an apple tart and she got black forest gateau, would recomend both, the tart comes flambeed in alcohol and is delicious.
I wish this place was better but for the price and the fact that they include a 10% service charge on the bill, which is unusual in Dublin, its not up to the standard of other places that are half the price. We would always leave at least 10% tip anyway, at least! So feel having it included ont he bill is a little cheeky.
Overall we got two gin and tonics, a bottle of wine and the early bird 3 courses and it came to over 100 euro. Early birds elsewhere in Dublin are far more reasonable and food equally as good. The place is very nice, the staff and service excellent but the food portions are small and they were cold which is a little unforgiveable, especially for a soup.

“this should really be higher up on tripadvisor list”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Went there for a ceremony lunch with some friends, were 7 in total. We availed of the set lunch menu, however we wanted to customise it to include some canapes and we received full cooperation and availability from Jan Jack, the owner. Canapes were very nice, with some kind of pizza bread covered by prawns, salmon, parma ham or ham, and some light jelly on top which gave it an amazing taste. Mains were delicious too. The fish of the day with sauce was amazing, those who got it cleaned the plate entirely, with the help of nice and fresh french bread. Steaks were nice, although a bit on the small side. Skinny chips were a bit overcooked, but this didnt spoil the overall very nice taste of the mains. Desserts were also very good, the black forrest dessert was full of chocolate, nice. but the pudding was amazing, caramellized with some amazing flavor that i could not even describe. (i got to try 2 mains and 2 desserts as i shared and swapped plates with my wife to try more varieties). Ah, and the monday's wine offer at 50% was a plus. We got Château Puy Castera A/C, at 36e full price it would have already been fantastic value (not even in french restaurant in france they would charge so low on it, according to my brother who was 1 of the party and lives in france), not to mention how great it was at half price. overall well reccommended.

“Traditional and reliable”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We dined as a couple. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was good. The quality of the fish excellent even if the presentation was a little more traditional than modern refined. Dressings on salads a bit heavy but otherwise enjoyable and would definitely return.
