“This is not an acceptable way to treat customers”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

I' m travelling quite often. Last weekend, together with my wife (I' m47, my wife 37), we spent a nite in this horrible hotel. Location is real bad: the area is populated by prostitutes and alcoholics.
The staff consist of 1 person and is extremely impolite and non professional.

The name is misleading - this isn't an airport hotel (in fact there's not even a direct bus to the airport), it's a Travelodge in Ballymun. The area has been successfully regenerated and has changed a lot - the photographic exhibition in the hotel lobby about it is worth a look. There are frequent buses up the Ballymun Road from the city centre and routes 4 and 13 stop outside the hotel. The journey takes about 15-20 minutes from O'Connell Bridge.

This was the cheapest deal we could find in Dublin over a 3-night weekend and we had a pleasant stay. Staff were genuine, friendly and down to earth. The man who cleaned our room on the Saturday morning went out of his way to be helpful and cleanliness was generally very good. The room was larger than at other Travelodges we've stayed in and was quite spacious and bright with large clean windows overlooking the green area in front of the hotel. Although the building is new and modern, the rooms are showing signs of having taken a beating - doors handles are quite shaky, carpets stained and our sink had been glued back together. However, the amenities are good with an in-room hairdryer, trouser-press, ironing-board and iron as well as the kettle. Loads of storage space too.

There is a Macary's fish and chip shop next door to the hotel. The Tower pub across the street is a well-run proper local with Beamish at €3.25 a pint and live music on a Sunday evening. We felt welcome there every night. There is a Tesco, a Supervalu, a chemist, a pizza restaurant and a Chinese takeaway opposite the hotel. Supervalu sells one day bus passes at €6.90 per adult or €11.50 for a family (2 adults and up to 2 children - but you can still use it even if you're just 2 adults).

We slept well every night and didn't experience any problems with noise either in the hotel or the street outside while we were there. All things considered, we'd definitely stay again.

All the staff we met were very friendly and more than willing to help and answer our questions.
The room itself was basic and we could not find the remote for the TV also there was no phone to ring to reception to ask so we gave up.
The location is about 10 minutes away from the airport so was ideally located for what we needed but it is not in the most desirable location for everyone.
Would mainly go back due to the price.

Travelling on my own as a female I did not feel safe at all in this hotel. The hotel parking is located around the back of the hotel, loads of broken windows on the way to car park. Have to buzz to be allowed in. Ate in cafe reasonable food nice waitress. Room clean but toilet smelled of wee. Couple next door partied & fought all night. Didnt get any sleep & didnt feel safe at all. Lots of shouting, crying & banging doors. Would not recomend this experience. Pay a bit more & get some sleep

Dear lavo2010,

Thank you for your recent review. I was glad to read that you found our cafe pleasant both in food quality and service standards and that your bedroom was clean and comfortable. It is unfortunate that their was an odour issue with your bathroom as we pride ourselves with the highest levels of hygeine and cleanliness throughout. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused.

It was unfortunate the disturbance you encountered with noise from the room next door. Our night team would have duly attended to this disturbance if it was brought to their attention. We endeavour to ensure that all our guests have a pleasant stay with us and ensure the highest level of security throughout. This also applies to the car park with controlled entry and exit via monitored security cameras and individual identification.

I trust this disturbance will not diminish your perception of the hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

This has to be the worst Travelodge I have experienced. The location is awful with numerous undesirables hanging around outside. On the first night there was a fight in the bar of which never party were asked to leave which caused a bad atmosphere for the remainder of the evening. On the second night there was bingo going on in bar which was loud enough to be heard from my room. On contacting reception about this I was informed that this would finish at 11:30pm, however at 11:30pm the music was then turned up and played until12:30am. I had to request to change rooms and asked for details to whom I should complain, only to be fobbed off by the male behind reception who clearly was not the least bit interested. The area is awful and the local amenities are poor. Never again!!

Dear June1706,

Thank you for posting a review on Tripadvisor. It is disappointing that you encountered such incidents in the bar and the disturbance from music until 12:30am. I am glad to read that my team were proactive in dealing with your complaint in moving you to a quieter room, although I was disappointed to read of the lack of customer care provided by the staff member. I can assure you that I have addressed your concerns with my team here in the hotel and taken measures to ensure a repeat of this does not occur again.

Thank you again for your feedback and I sincerely trust that this isolated incident will not deter you from visiting us again in the future.

there are two "aiport travelodge" in Dublin. this one is dubbed "south" and is not connected to the airport. you want to stay here only if you are driving. There is another one, dubbed "north" which is conneceted to the airport with a shuttle. I had found no indication about this, so please beware.
I had a plane leaving at 6:30 a.m. booked here for the night before, to discover there was no public connection from or to the airport. In fact, I took the only bus toward a travelodge and found myself in the wrong one (the other). here they were helpful and found an accomodation for me.

Dear Laura L,

Many thanks for your review. Indeed we have 2 Travelodge Hotels close to the Airport; the shuttle bus only serves the Travelodge Dublin Airport North and we advertise this. I am pleased to read that you were accommodated after arriving at the wrong Travelodge.

You will be pleased to learn that we are pursuing having a shuttle service for our guests at this hotel and hopefully you can avail of this service on your next stay with us.
