For some reason we had trouble finding the Grand Canal , even directions from a local cabbie still sent us round in circles. The hotel is in a business district , but as such benefits from a DART station literally across the road - 2 stops to the city centre. Our family room was excellent , clean , spacious , with enough TV channels to keep us all ( wife & 15 year old son) happy. Our package came without breakfast , which did look pricey , but given we were only a 15 min walk to Grafton St , there were plenty of cafes to choose from. One benefit of being in a business area - BT was facing us - the Hotel Bar ( the Gasworks) served great pub lunches , with a queue from 1300 onwards. The bar was a bit inpersonal , but allowed our 15 year old in when most Dublin bars wouldn't - and 5 euro cocktails on a Friday night are always a good idea ! Staff were friendly , handy car park , and overall a very good choice from the myriad of hotels Dublin has to offer.

This hotel was perfectly fine, but offered only the bare minimum for its price point. The experience started encouragingly. I was traveling with my boyfriend but we unexpectedly met another friend, so we needed a triple room rather than the double we'd reserved To its credit, the hotel offered us an upgrade to the triple at no additional cost.

As of this writing, the property is still fairly new; according to its promotional materials, it opened in 2004. I did, however, note that mildew was already beginning to appear in the bathroom. (I'm sure it's a struggle in Ireland's climate, especially in this overwet year - but that just means a hotel has to be aggressive.) The towels were just adequate, the bedding just adequate, and the location is a bit far from Dublin's main attractions - a walk that's perfectly do-able, at least for New Yorkers, but a bit damp when it's raining. The DART station around the corner isn't much help, as its route isn't close to the central tourism areas. The immediate surroundings offer little in food and drink, so you're captive to the hotel's own facilities.

The main incentive was, we believe, the price - but when we returned to Dublin a few days later, we found a much nicer property (the Quality Hotel on John Rogerson Quay) for about the same amount.

We had a good stay at the Grand Canal. Quite an easy walk into the city which we did each day. The DART station is just over the road making a trip to the picturesque Howth area very easy.
The hotel was good , the staff very helpfull. One morning the hot water failed, when we checked out ,the manager offered to pay all our bar bill ! ( if only we knew before ! )
The breakfast was good. We did get rushed for our drink order; obviously used to the more impatient American visitor.!
I wouls definately stay there again.

The Grand Canal Hotel is similar to the type of hotels most Americans are used to. It was clean and comfortable. It seems to have plenty of parking. Unfortunately, there is not much else nearby, which was inconvenient for dining. We had to have dinner in the bar because for some reason the restaurant wasn't serving. The hotel was close enough to walk to the sights I wanted to see, but too far for some of my companions. It was quiet, however. Be careful at checkout - I was charged twice.

First time I had been to Dublin, got a bus outside of airport to main street in Dublin (o'Connell Street). Quite a walk from here!

Having read a lot of reviews i didnt realise how far away it was. With our bags we were worn out when we got to hotel!!

Lovely clean, well presented hotel. Can't really fault it, in a quiet area of Dublin away from hustle and bustle.

We then walked into Temple Bar, a good 20 min walk, but a pleasant walk where we spent rest of afternoon and evening.

We ate at Mexico to Rome, a lovely little restaurant with an early doors offer. 14.95 euros for starter and main. A very good offer down temple bar! Temple Bar is expensive so beware! We didn't try any bars outside this area so didn't compare prices. I wouldnt walk back late to hotel, we did but it was only 10pm. I would get a taxi if you were going any later.

Didn't have breakfast at the hotel , but found a super waffle and pancake place called Lemon and co around Dawson Street. Superb service and priced well! The following day we went to Guiness Storehouse, highly recommended.

I would recommend a visit to the Quay bar, a bloke was playing music, he was very good and funny!

Many pubs have irish music and had a good feel to them. Didn't go in any that made me feel awkward but that is the highlight of staying around the temple Bar area, they all aimed at the tourists.

We had a lovely time at Dublin, and very keen to now visit other parts of ireland!

Stayed with my partner at the Grand Canal for 2 nights in June. The hotel is very clean and modern, the staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. The gasworks bar which adjoins the hotel was great for a drink and a snack - they even have salsa lessons on a Thursday evening which was fun! Taxi from the airport cost us approx 22 euro. The walk into Dublin takes approx 20 minutes, best to walk in and take a taxi back costing approx 6 euro. There are no shortage of taxis and the public transport system is excellent. All in all a great hotel to stay in - not too far from the
centre but far enough away from the hustle and bustle!
