“Stedentrip Dublin vanuit Grand Canal Hotel”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

The Grand Canal Hotel in Dublin is a very comfortable hotel in which you can stay perfect for a reasonable price. We have stayed here for a citytrip to Dublin and it was very nice. The employees of the hotel are very nice and are willing to help you with everything! The rooms in the hotel are big and you have enough space to sleep, live and just relax. The bathroom is simple but just what you need for a citytrip.

The Grand Canal Hotel has also a restaurant but that isn't that great as we thought. You can drink a bear and watch sports but for the food you have to wait long and it's is not of a culinairy highstandard as we are used to in restaurants in Holland.

The Grand Canal Hotel also has breakfast in the morning. The breakfast is perfect and just what you need in the morning. You just pay € 9,95 per person.

To discover the city you can take a taxi which are most of the day waiting in front of the hotel, but you can also let the hotel staff call a taxi. If you want to walk it is at least a 15 minute walk, with 15 minutes you are at the beginning of the city centre, do you want further into the city centre it is more than a 15 minute walk.

When you arrive at Dublin Airport you see the airport coaches everywhere which take you into the city. Those cost you 7 euro's per person. We chose to take the bus which stops at the fron of the hotel and only cost you 4 euro's per person. If you walk further more you can find this green busses. If you choose to go with the more expensive aircoach, please check if it goes to School House hotel (this is the hotel at the other street and where you have to hop off to walk to the Grand Canal Hotel). We had the wrong bus (both of the busses go to the city centre and neither of them say what the difference is). When stepping out of the bus you go like a 50 meters to the canal and then to the right and than a 100 meter walk and to te right and than like another 50 minutes and you're standing in front of the Grand Canal hotel.

Room Tip: Wij hadden een kamer aan de wegkant van het hotel en we hebben hier totaal niks van gemerkt, het hot...

Hello
Thank you for your comments. I am sorry you were disappointed with the food in served and have discussed your comments with our chef. We will continue to monitor and improve our standards.
Do check our website for shuttle times as there are now 2 options - if you are using the Aircoach - it is a Blue bus and you will need to ask for the Ballsbridge bus that will leave you around the corner. The direct hotel shuttle is a green Paddywagon bus (the timetable is on our website) and will leave you to the door.
Thanks again for the posting.
Kind regards

We choose this hotel as it is within 5 minute walking distance of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. Check in was simple and the girl checking us in was very friendly. Room was on the 4th floor, very clean and spacious. Extremely good value for money .
We didnt eat in the hotel but had a few drinks in the bar after the show.It a lovely bar with lots of room. Bar staff are very friendly and efficient.
It was extremely busy with a DJ. If your looking for a quiet drink its not the place to go . We had to shout to hear each other over the music, However lots of groups around us loving the music , so a night away with a group and it probably would have gone down a treat. We would definitely stay here again .

Hello
Thank you for your posting. Delighted you enjoyed your stay and I am sure the show. Wicked has been a great start to 2014 and the theatre have plenty more shows to come including - Evita and War Horse.
The Gaswroks is a lively spot on the weekends. If you are looking for a more relaxed option our lobby area is spacious with sofas and easy chairs - always worth considering.
Hope you will get a chance to return soon. Thanks again for the feedback.

We arrived at this hotel on the 30th Dec, staying the 3 nights, check in was simple and very friendly, we were given a executive room which was spotlessly clean and had a lovely 32in flat screen smart TV, very spacious rooms complete with fresh clean bath robes!!
The Gasworks bar was lovely and my wife had some food which was very sufficient and well worth the money, all in all this is a lovely hotel with reasonable prices for Dublin as it is a expensive city....

we would definitely go back and recommend this hotel highly!!

Room Tip: 4th Floor is the best!!

Trip for New year.Lovely double bed and bath which was a definate bonus.Complimentary bottles of water, chocolates on pillow, biscuits with tea and coffee, all those nice touches which made things even better.Couldn't recommend this hotel more, and only two stops from Grand Canal Dart Station across the road to Tara Street station in the centre of town.Staff fantastic and gave me biscuits when they found out I hadn't eaten after my first flight cancellation on 27th.A very big thumbs up!

Room Tip: Room at rear of hotel would be quieter

From start to finish, everything was exactly as promised. Aircoach had stopped their service to Ballsbridge and the hotel provided a return shuttle bus for a small fee. They also offer a shuttle to 02 arena, which for us would normally be walkable, but I had hurt my back so was an extremely valuable service on this occasion. The hotel is clean, comfortable and great value for money. Grand Canal Dock is a short stroll away which has a couple of fab eating places, also Shelbourne Park for a good night out at the races is on the doorstep. Dublin city centre is walkable or the DART station is just round the corner. Overall a great base for sightseeing and activities, and the staff are very helpful too. We are already booked for our next trip.

Hello
Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. Glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again soon. The O2 has a great line up this year.
The Aircoach has been restarted (on a reduced timetable) but we have retained our shuttle service so there are good options to get to and from the airport. Check our website for timetables.
Thank you again for your comments.

This was our second stay in the Grand Canal Hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms bright, clean and spacious. We didn't eat dinner as had prior engagement but breakfast was fresh and varied. Would definitely stay here again.
