We went for a lovely walk today with our two young lads up the sugar loaf. before we left the car park my partner but her handbag into the boot and we double locked the car.when we came back the bag was gone and the lock on the drivers door damaged.so be safe and leave nothing in the car.

A steep but easy walk, and a good way to walk off breakfast. You can cheat by driving to the carpark at the bottom of the Sugarloaf!

The carpark is a disgrace. Barbed wire fences covered in torn plastic, over the small ridge lie prams, sofas, a mattress, electronics, all manner of junk dumped. A dystopian vision.

The gate to the walk is also a mess, improvised from other bits of junk and elastic. After that you pass some nice horses.

It's difficult to find a clear route up the hill / mountain, we found ourselves on very treacherous scree on the way down. Perhaps one or two simple marker posts to indicate the route would help.

We also encountered many plastic bottles amongst the heather and rocks throughout the walk, so presumably even those who climb the mountain and appreciate it are also littering it.

Nothing seems to have been done to deter dumping or littering - no warning of a fine for instance. Laziness and neglect have spoilt a nice little spot. Oh, and the view is quite good!

The perfect level of exertion to make the views rewarding! You will need to be fairly nimble to get up here as although it starts easy, you will be climbing between rocks to get to the summit. If you are fairly fit you can get up here in less than an hour, and the 360 degree views from the top are spectacular.
The car park / start of the walk is not the easiest place to find (and you need a car) so make sure you are clear on directions before starting out. The great side of that is you will find it a peaceful and unspoilt destination.

I enjoyed the climb and the fact that although there are many paths on the mountain it has not been completely spoiled like many others in north Wicklow. Needless to remark there were lots of people on the mountain although it was midweek and mid winter.
