Stayed in Adelphi for one night at the end of January. Booked a double room for one person and received a room that would sleep four...on arrival I was given a key with my room number on it and told it was upstairs, this was all the info I got as to where my room was. Also told that breakfast was served between 8.30 and 10 with no directions to the kitchen whatsoever. Didn't have the breakfast anyway as I was leaving early for a flight. The bnb is located right next to a rail line so this might a
Not suit light sleepers. The bus stop that takes you to the airport (no.41) was right across the street and this was about the best thing.

For starters, I shall say that this guesthouse is somewhat deceptive in its description on numerous websites. It states that each room has a phone and a TV...more like it has the POTENTIAL to have them. Our room had the fixtures, but not the actual contents. Also, be prepared to have your own towels as even though they also were advertised; their absence was noted.

The infamous bald man with glasses greeted us and the previous reviews ring true to our experience. He failed to muster up a "Hello" and barely spoke to us and seems begrudged to even offer us our room key. Something needs to be done with this person as his customer service is practically non-existent. Fortunately there was a red-headed chap who seemed to be much better when it came to our enquiries; perhaps he should take a leaf out of his book, so to speak.

Our room was boiling when we arrived and we had to dash to the window to get some relief before turning down the central heating. Granted, it's understandable you'd want your room to be warm upon your arrival; but you wouldn't expect to be met with a wall of heat. We will say that the room was clean and the bathroom was well-presented for the space given. The shower head was poor though, more like a single stream of water instead of a traditional showerhead. One big plus point was the wireless internet. The service was consistent and fast enough for us so we could relax in the evenings.

The location was good, only 10 minutes walk from O'Connell Street's Spire so if you wished to whisk yourself into the city centre, it's no expedition!

Their 'Irish' breakfasts are nothing but a disappointment. There's nothing Irish about them. No white pudding, no potato cakes or fried potatoes or anything. Just one anaemic sausage, a tough piece of bacon, half a plate of beans and a solitary egg. This accompanied with four pieces of cold toast. Lovely. After we had this 'meal' for a second day, we both felt ill (myself especially) and were lucky to travel home in one piece.

All in all, we felt hard done by this guesthouse and a change of staff should be considered. Not worth the money we paid for.

Thank God I did not read previous reviews before booking. Overall Adelphi is not as bad as it is being painted and there is on- going renovation and improvement. I did not see any "bald" guy. Yes I could smell paint, the TV was ancient looking, so I did not bother putting it on. Breakfast was ok, kitchen staff were friendly. The wifi was working although it was a little bit slow. Some hangers were fixed while I was still there so that means the establishment has noted all the bad reviews and are responding. There was no tea making facility in the rooms which is a minus. The issue of dropping your key before going out is not peculiar to Adelphi, although more care should be taking in handing over back keys so that they don't hand over the wrong key to the wrong people. Overall I will give them 50% and that is a pass mark.

The pictures in the Adelphi Guesthouse on line are deceptive. The rooms are relatively clean, however very very small. We had requested a triple room and were basically given a double room where they added a third bed right underneath the wall mounted TV. The washroom was clean but the toilet did not flush properly. We were located on the top floor which I think is the 5th floor, lots of stairs, no lifts. No telephones, no clocks, no closets or hooks to hang clothes, no necessities except towels. The view is basically the back of buildings. I would not recommend this guesthouse unless you are young and fit and within a very tight budget. The only good thing about this guesthouse, is its location, close walking proximity to O’Connell Street and major attractions.

We planned a trip to Ireland a few weeks in advance and booked several B&Bs across the country. The Adelphi reservation wasn't going through online so we e-mailed the guesthouse and explained the situation. They immediately responded that our reservation was guaranteed. When we arrived at Adelphi (after having a hard time finding it), a gentleman met us at the door having just gotten a room key from an extremely unhappy couple. When we mentioned our reservation the gentleman went to look and came back asking if we had any more information, because he couldn't find the reservation. We mentioned the situation and told about the e-mail and offered to show him if he'll let us use the WiFi (which he was very reluctant about). Even after showing the e-mail as evidence, he told us it wasn't a reservation (even though the e-mail from Adelphi said it was) and acted pretty put-off by the situation. The whole time we couldn't shake the feeling we were doing something wrong by asking them to honor the reservation they guaranteed. He ultimately made a phone call to another guesthouse nearby and found an open room for us. This was the only positive (the only reason we're rating it 2/5 instead of 1/5) of an overwhelmingly negative customer service experience. We would certainly NOT recommend this place to anybody else.

Overall a pretty good B&B ... but, 42 rooms and I ended up with the small one at the top of 4 flights of stairs. In fairness, it was the only double room available upon a walk-in - unreserved.

Be sure to ask for room 40 the largest of the rooms in the middle of the building on level one.. Rooms were clean and efficient. Looks like the B&B had been recently remolded and modernized

The front desk was mostly just business and not much warm and friendly - but , very accomadating.

Room Tip: Room 40 on level one - no stairs and in the middle of the building

Dont be fooled for one second by the pictures you'll see on sites they use to sell rooms,I felt mislead by the pictures I'd seen when I booked it,having paid 255 euro for two nights i had expected a little bit more. Not even a hello when arrived just a grunt, do we have reservations from a bald guy with glasses,we got a 10 x10 room at best with a beaufiul view of two mattress in the back yard of guesthouse, the window handles were broken, there was headboard on the bed,the sheets were too small for the bed,and we three of the flatess pillows in dublin, the dart passes every few minutes so it's quite loud. The water in the shower takes for ages to heat and the shower tray fills in seconds so your looking at flooding the place if your shower is longer than a minute, you'll hear the door bell ring every few minutes as you have to leave your room key at reception every time you leave, very annoying. the breakfast was fine but full Irish breakfasts have more than 4 items in a plate. The tv had bad signal the remote didn't work so I had to ask for batteries the look I got from the bald guy was if I had asked him for money, the location was fine, but I certainly won't be going back, we got ripped off and mislead,i know its a bed and breakfast but for over 120 a night I expected a lot more.avoid at all costs pay extra some where else if you have, this place certainly ain't worth it. I never write reviews I've never had to,sure Ive stayed in places where there been a few things wrong but nothing like this place.avoid avoid avoid

Room Tip: Don't go to the adelphi and if you are bring your own towels!!
