“Phoenix Park”
Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

This monument is located in Phoenix Park along with the zoo. It is interesting and hard to miss as it is right in the middle of an open area.

“Impressive Monument”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

The Wellington monument is an obelisk near the southeast (main) entrance to Phoenix Park. It is 62 meters high and is the highest obelisk in Europe. It was built to commemorate the victories of the 1st duke of Wellington who was born in Dublin. Interestingly it was first planned to be built in Merrion square until the residents had protested this idea. It is a beautiful monument for Phoenix Park, but I agree, it would be a little out of place in Merrion Square park. The plaques surrounding the statue were also made from melted down cannons from waterloo. Overall an impressive monument and not to be missed while in Phoenix Park.
