The Dawson Hotel & Spa
Ranked #101 of 152 Hotels in Dublin
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We had very mixed impressions and not sure if we would return there.

Pros:The location is perfect: easy walking distance to all major sights,Temple Bar area and
parks. The rooms are comfortable. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Cons: When we arrived, there was no hot water in the rooms and even after this was "fixed", water was only luke warm for our entire 2 night stay.
The worst was that we could hear music and the thumping, vibrating bass from the nightclub downstairs until 2am. We called and front desk is aware of this. This hotel has obviously decided that nightclub patrons are more important than hotel guests.
Breakfast was weird; very sparse buffet. We ordered toast which arrived finally at the end of our breakfast and an omelet which was good but was alone on the plate-no fruit, potatoes or even garnish.
It was as if they had never served breakfast before or were unready to do so.

I had a few days in Dublin and stayed at the La Stampa hotel.
I had a mini suite and it was beautiful. The hotel is close to Grafton street so pubs and shops are easily within walking distance (and I hate walking....)
There is also a spa attached to this hotel but I didn't have time to try it but if it's anything like the rest of the hotel it will be 1st class.
Would check back into this hotel again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: If you can find a deal for a mini suite take it, it's well worth the few extra pounds - although...

This hotel is well located near Stephen's Green, but the pluses end there. To get to your room you have to walk through a large club/bar. No big deal leaving in the morning, but not that much fun after getting back late from work. The rooms themselves are sub par: worn, dirty furniture; small TV with almost no channels; noisy bathroom fan; etc. WiFi in room is advertised, but mine had no signal, which is a big minus while on business. I had to go to the bar to login to my VPN. Breakfast was small and took 45 minutes to arrive.

You can see from my other reviews that I'm not a big complainer. This hotel is truly sub-par. Find somewhere else.

Room Tip: The higher the better. Lots of noise (and smell) from the bar downstairs and street.

Loved this hotel, beautifully decorated rooms, spacious and very comfy big bed. Fully stocked mini bar in room with tea and coffee. Food in bar excellent. Very friendly staff, could not do enough for you. Excellent location, 1 min walk from Grafton Street and Stephen's Green in a lovely area of Dublin. It is pricy but was a special occasion. I would highly recommend and would definately go back.

Our group of five had three rooms for two nights at La Stampa.

Two rooms were booked directly with the hotel, whilst the third was through Travel Republic. Communication with the hotel after booking, and the day before arrival was easy - with emails acknowledged and responded to in very quick time.

The hotel is on Dawson Street, near Trinity College - so getting to the hotel was easy enough on the Airport link bus (service 747) which drops you by Trinity.

Upon arrival we were shown through to reception and welcomed. Check in was easy and we were shown up to our rooms. The gentleman even carried our bag for us.

To access the lift you need to go through the bar, which is a trendy, upmarket affair which has table service. The lifts and doors to the hotel are all keypad entry from there.

The rooms were huge. Ours room was actually three adjoining - a bedroom, a lounge and a bathroom. There was a TV in the bedroom and lounge. The room had a safe, as well as the usual iron and board, and tea/coffee making tray. There was also a mini bar. The only improvement I could mention would be that the TV reception was poor on some channels, and the shower gel and shampoo were very high up which resulted in a the water going directly into your face whilst trying to get some shower gel out of the dispenser.

The hotel was quiet, you could occasionally hear people walking past, but lets face it where cant you?

Check out was also very easy. The hotel allowed us to leave our bags there as we weren't flying until much later.

The staff are big assets to La Stampa, but the hotel in general is good. We would recommend.

We did have a drink in the hotel bar, which was busy (we had noticed this upon returning so booked a table). As mentioned, it is table service - so everything comes to you! It's a friendly bar, and reasonably priced. We didn't eat in the hotel, but the beautiful décor of the restaurant was noted by my other half.

As mentioned, La Stampa is on Dawson Street. One of Dublin's smallest pubs is also on Dawsons Street, if you walk up the street you will find the door of Dawson's Lounge.

The bauchaus suite is fabulous as is the bathroom. Brilliant location, opposite the mansion house around the corner from Grafton street. All the staff are very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this boutique hotel, it really is a hidden gem.
