We spent four nights in this guest house. We didn't expect more than we got in terms of quality of service and accomodation so I cannot say we were dissatisfied with the place. The house is conveniently located close to O'Connell street so it was very easy to get to different bus stops and touristic sites. Our room was on the first floor - generally ok and clean (although last decoration probably took place years ago), but poorly isolated - we could hear the snoring of another guest in the next room for 3 nights in a row. Bathroom incredibly small (towels in a very bad shape) but the shower was working. The owners were nice, we appreciated that they let us leave the luggage with them for 12 hours as our return flight was late at night.

However something unexpected happened on our last night - at around 5 am the front doors of the house were banged open by three unknown men (who were not among the guests of the house), who then went up the stairs to the top floor, forced the door open to one of the rooms, snatched the backpack of the guest therein (who was half asleep and too scared to chase them down the street) and then just ran away. The police came over and talked to the owners/victim and promised to come back later for fingerprints (but didn't show up at least within the next 5 hours while we were still there). We do not know what happened next as we left the town the same day, but definitely the doors did not look secure to us in the first place (each of them having only a tiny lock installed). This is actually what made them break down so easily (the only sign left of the breaking-in was a crack in the front door glass).

When we came back late that evening to pick-up our case, the doors looked just the same, no sign of security improvement, and the cracked glass was covered by a tape. Since it was a Sunday, it may have been that the owners could not find any shops open in order to repair the doors. They admitted it was the first time in 21 years that this happened to them. Still, a word of warning is necessary - make inquiries as to whether they took measures to improve the security of the house!
We will definitely avoid staying there if we go to Dublin again.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the street may be quieter.

Hi Norama,
We appreciate your feedback on this website. We are a family run guest house, 21 years in business and reside on the premises with our family so have always pride ourselves in ensuring the property is secure. This is our 1st ever instance of a break in, in the 21 years in business. We have since had a security consultant in reviewing the property to ensure all measures are taken to prevent a repeat of this instance. We have already installed a 8 camera CCTV recorded to cover all angles of the house and all locks have been changed. We deeply apologise for the inconvenience caused. As we have a family living on premises it is vital we consider security of both our guests and family alike!
Kind Regards,
Catherine (Owner)

Thanks a lot to Cathrine, we stopped in this place twice in our trip to Ireland on our honeymoon, breakfast is perfect, the place itself is very comfy and homy.We always could get back from the centre walking to the place, it's about 10-15 minutes. Besides therу is a bus hop on hop off stop close to it. Best wishes from Russia!

Staying at the Marian Guesthouse was getting to know the best of Ireland! Nice Georgian-style house with large-enough bedrooms, with clean furniture and very comfortable beds. In the morning we were full of energy after a delicious Irish breakfast, whilst listening to traditional Irish music. Catherine served us each day with a lovely smile, and before leaving she would give us interesting tips for getting around Dublin. The B&B is very accessible, only a few minutes walk away from the city centre and the local bus station! Catherine was very discrete, she told us where everything was, with no desire to hurry us up or usher us into our rooms! Furthermore, she told us not to hesitate if we had a question! Finally we would recommend this guesthouse to anybody who was wishing to spend a couple of days in this wonderful city! At a cheap price too!!

We stayed here for one night, and chose it mostly because we could make our way easily to the ferry the next morning. The hotel room was clean, but we definitely didn't feel wanted by the owner. She really made us feel like we'd inconvenienced her by staying there! She was probably just tired though, as we checked in quite late. The room was clean and spacious.
The location of the guesthouse was terrible though. The area just seemed bad. There were groups of young people hanging about outside on the street at midnight just watching us. There was rubbish just dumped all over the footpath, barely contained in bags. We really weren't comfortable standing in the street.
The next morning when we checked out we were carrying our luggage to the car and had to walk through the cloud of cigarette smoke being generated by the owner on the front steps. I appreciate that it's her right to smoke, but it would have been nicer if she'd down it somewhere else..

We stayed there for one night and were surprised about the friendlines of the owner Catherine. It felt like coming home.
She wasn't just occupied with her own business but also recommended cheap and nice places to have dinner.
The room was very clean and the service was exellent. We found the style of the rooms and sitting room charming, it would be boring if every hotel and b&b looked the same.
Breakfast was delicious and we would strongly recommend this b&b to anyone who wants to visit Dublin for a couple of days.
We visited nine other b&b's and hostels in Ireland and found this the best one!
We will certainly go back there when we visit ireland again.
Keep up the good work Catherine,
greetings, Frederik and Ine.
