“Great location but dated”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

I have just stayed for two nights at the Grafton Capital Hotel. The location is great, just below Temple Bar. I was here for business and so wanted somewhere central.
The rooms are all very basic and to be honest all look a little tired. Also there was a fair amount of street noise however if you are wanting a central location you have to expect this.
The one thing that I found irritating was I needed to be able to access wifi for work. However there is no wifi in the rooms. They do have wifi in what they call the guests lounge. This is actually a hallway outside of the lifts on the 1st floor. This affords you no privacy and it is also a walkway through to the restaurant so not great. Also I found the wifi very very weak and slow.
If you are here for a few days. A tip - if you need strong wifi there is a Starbucks just down the road!

Room Tip: Ask for one on the higher floors - otherwise you will hear the noise from Break For The Border attac...

Stayed for two nights here. It's location is fantastic but it looks liek no money has been spent on the place for a while. The lobby is worn out and the rooms could do with a refurb to get rid of signs of use. But in its favour, the rooms are a good size and clean with a nice decor. I was in 316 which overlooked the front of the hotel. The hotel has a club/bar which shuts at 1am or 3am depending on the day. There's lots of noise when it closes because everyone hangs around the entrance which is below the bedroom window. That woke me on both nights. The room does have a coffee and tea tray but no safe, wifi or air-con. The hairdryer is an old-fashioned type in the bathroom. Breakfast was in the 1st floor restaurant which is a bit dark but the food was OK (a hot and old buffet). Free wifi here. All in all a good hotel and cheaper than many central hotels but be prepared for noise.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that doesn't over look the front of the hotel.

The Grafton Capital is nothing fancy but definitely accommodating. The receptionist (Lucee) was very helpful and informative. She booked our reservations and was very well versed in the area and with activities. The "bar/club" is only open during on weekends but that's OK because just across the small street road is The Hairy Lemon pub which has great food, atmosphere, and drinks.

The rooms were an average size but a bit dated. The bed- FIRM. The hotel seemed a bit dark but it was still comfortable, and it was located about a block away from all of the shopping on Grafton Street. The Temple Bar area was a short 5-10 minute walk away as well. The restaurant at breakfast was very dark with a minimal selection of hot and cold foods. If you're a low-maintenance traveler, this hotel will be just fine. If you're seeking true comfort, there are other options you may want to consider. My only issue was that there was no internet access in the rooms, only on the 1st floor in the common area and it was pretty spotty at that.

Room Tip: We booked through booking.com which I thought made the room/bed choices pretty clear. Apparently not...

Our room was directly above the pub across the street which was open until 4 am - the noise was amazingly boisterous and sustained all night long. Sleep was unattainable. No other rooms were available as the hotel was full. The room was adequate but everything was pretty old, which I suppose is to be expected of a property this age. I was not charmed due to my lack of sleep. Plus, the free wireless (in the lounge only) rarely worked. A computer in the lounge is available for 1 Euro per 7 minutes of use but people seemed to get frustrated every time they used it, myself included. General websites would work (news) but if you tried to do anything (airline, Fexco) it did work. Will not stay here again despite the ideal location.

This hotel is ideally situated for everything. It is a glimpse away from Grafton Street and the beautiful Merrion Sq Park. A very short the other way takes you to temple bar and all it has to offer. A little further takes you over the bridge to O'Connell street. This is all in very close proximity to the hotel. The lounge bar was closed during the week when we stayed so not too sure how it is working now (best to ring and check if this is an issue for you) however everything including bars, chemists, cafes, cooffee shops etc etc are right on the doorstep literally! The breakfast was delicious and the staff really helpful and friendly. Clean and comfortable with everything you need in the room. I would definitely stay here again.. Best point is its location, cant be beat!

Room Tip: Best location to stay in Dublin - central for everything

Location of this hotel is excellent but it is an average hotel and would not stay more than a weekend. The hotel looks tired from reception to rooms. We were in 219. Windows not double glazed and with a pub opposite, it was very noisy. Then there were all the trucks collecting or delivering starting at 5am. Room was grubby but spacious. Ironing board, hairdryer, tea/coffee all there but no safe.
Bathroom could of done with some care and attention. Damp on walls as no ventilation. Between tiles was dirty and so was around the bath.
With all the tourists from Germany and America, I thought a better breakfast would of been supplied. The usual Irish breakfast was there but not much else. The breakfast looked dried up and unappetising. I like a continental breakfast but there was only some ham that looked like it had been sitting there a few days and some processed cheese wich looked like plastic. There was some cereal but not much else. I ended up with some toast and fruit juice as even the coffee was weak and tasteless.
If staying more than a weekend, go elsewhere but for a short break it was fine.

Room Tip: Do not get one facing the street outside

Just returned back from a couple of nights at the Grafton Capital, the second time I have stayed there. First time was great, with a lovely clean room. This time, unfortunately, our room was tired looking and over-looking a noisy builders yard. The bathroom wasn't pleasant, the tile grout was filthy, the bath panel cracked in a couple of places and a terrible smell from time to time.
You can't fault the excellent location, but you can find smarter hotels for a little extra money.
