“Lovely little place.”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

I visited this establishment twice when I was home last week – once on a mid week afternoon and another on Saturday mid morning. I sat had a coffee and brownie and have to say both were pretty damn good.

On Saturday, I returned with a friend and we were talked through the selection of cakes which ranged from cinnamon and walnut rolls to gluten free seed cakes. The staff took the time to talk to us and were clearly quite proud of their work. I had the chicken and harissa paste sandwich, with cucumber salad. It was really lovely, the bread really fresh, the chicken proper chicken breast, with delicate flavours. We both had the scone with orange blossom butter for afters which was AMAZING. I have honestly never normally gone for plain scones but these were so good.

The layout of the place is minimalistic but not in a bare way, there is a window to the kitchen and you can see all the fresh produce and a lovely little outdoor area that can be covered in the rain. This is a proper little gem in a city that has undergone a stretch and contraction of mediocre restaurants. I really, really hope Brother Hubbard stays and grows – it’s a credit to the city.

“Dinky Cafe”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Cool new cafe on Capel street serving scrumptous and inventive salads, sandwiches to take away or eat in.....gorgeous coffee and treats such as lemon drizzle cake, brownies, cinnamon buns. Sevice especially courteous and pleasant...always nice to get a smile when you walk in the door.. ..one visit is just not enough...

“Excellent”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Plus points - Great food, lovely people and a nice room. Good energy and they all seem to be pulling the right way way. Lovely touches with the food and interesting flavours. Special mention to the flourless orange buns - sensational.

Negatives - The most uncomfortable stools known to Christendom. Can be hard to get a spot (but thats not their fault). Slightly haphazard service occasionally (but no marks off as they are just finding their feet)

“Stylish, Friendly, Average Food”
Reviewed June 25, 2012

I had heard a lot about this place so said I'd give it a try. Went at lunch time on a Saturday and it was rather full. We were asked to share a table which was fine. We were seated outside. One criticism here was that there was no piped music in the outside area, which made sharing a table with just one strange a little bit awkward. The menu was very limited - this is their thing! I had the sandwich which had cheese, artichoke and salad on sourdough. The sourdough and the sandwich was just fine. For somewhere that charges almost €7 for a sandwich and with a menu that's so incredibly limited, the sandwich should be really good and it wasn't. The inside of the cafe has a lovely atmosphere, the decor is great and the staff are friendly. Because of the food I won't be rushing back.

“Lovely unique and stylish cafe”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Have visited this lovely cafe twice. My first visit was for early morning coffee shortly after it opened and was very impressed with the decor, service and lovely coffee and scone with orange blossom butter. (Divine).
My second visit was for lunch and yet again very impressed. Soup was celeriac and buttermilk. and was totally delicious. It came with slices of sourdough and I ordered a portion of taboulleh, which was really lovely and tasted of lots of fresh herbs
Was busy at lunch so getting a seat may be tricky but will definitely return and highly recommend to anyone.
