“Strange atmosphere, good steak”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

The restaurant looks good from the outside. I tried to order a Coke but had to switch to lemonade which was served in a very awkward glass thing ..... I ordered the lamb steak with fries. And that was all I got. Where were the salad and/or the veggies? We didn't dare to order a coffee. The next day we took another restaurant.

“Dissapointing Saturday meal won't be back...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

I was really so dissappointed,
The place looked quite cool but is was quite dark..
Drinks... Rip off republic on the wine... A nasty small measure...
I asked for sprite but they only had homemade alcohol drinks.... I had lemonade... Disgusting.....

Ordering the food was fun (not)!!! It was too dark to read the menu...
The menu was too small for me to read.. The 'background' music was so loud it was impossible to hear the waitress, who wasn't really bothered anyway..

Starters were fine... Nothing special...

We went outside for a few minutes as my partner wanted to have a cigarette... We were out roughly a minute when the waitress told us the food was on the table... Bad bad bad...

The main course 'flank' steak for two was cooked nicely but the meat wasn't really to the quality I had expected... It was quite tough and to further compound it, the steak knives were very blunt...
Other than that the food was fine...

The venue is in my opinion too lazy, the menu is lazy and whilst everyone was extremely sweet, there was a real absence of quality..
Even the unisex toilets were unattended and I couldn't get mine to flush..
I didn't complain because frankly I had made up my mind where I wouldn't be eating again..

Expensive I'm afraid..
A weary experience
Venue way too dark
Venue way too noisey.. Music volume was way too high..
Food... Not an experience for me...
Drink... Absolute joke
Staff In general were ok..

A different experience... The restaurant is trying to be cool with different / slightly alternative way of cooking/presenting food which is commendable.. Unfortunately they haven't pull it off and I won't be returning to find out if they do so in the future

“Lunch time treat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

Wet here for lunch it was alright! I think it's a bit over priced but it is Dublin! Had a look at the dinner menu! €6.50 for million dollar chips as a side! Dont think I would be rushing back

“Great idea poorly executed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Was at Bear last Friday - we had the feather steak and the rib eye - was very dissappointed. Ordered both medium rare but one came out rare and the other medium/well. Didn't bother sending them back as we could tell it wasn't worth the effort. Frankly there is much better steak to be had in many places in Dublin. Also, many of the beers on the menu were not available...and be warned they don't do dessert. So, maybe you'll have more luck here than we did or you're influenced by the Rugby link but we certainly won't be back.

“Overpriced and Overrated”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Visited Bear Today, The service was slow, The food was very average and completely over priced. I went there on the recommendation of friends. I would certainly not return in the near future as you could get a very good meal at the same price in a far classier restaurant. I think the fact that Jamie Heaslip owns the restaurant adds to its persona, if I could make one recommendation - JAMIE STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW BEST, RUGBY.
