“Nothing special and overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012 via mobile

Heard a lot about this restaurant so was looking forward to trying it. Went early as I'd heard there can be a wait for tables. Was seated at the bar as all the tables had been reserved for later. The high seats weren't comfortable and of course you are sitting right beside others. Not a great place for a catch up with friends.
We ordered a bean and chorizo dip to share. It was tasty except it was difficult to see the chorizo. It came with a big pork scratching type cracker it could have done without.
For the main we both ordered the chicken. It came with plain (bland) white rice and black beans. For €22 it was bland and very overpriced.
The atmosphere may be better for drinking than eating. Left with a much lighter wallet, a bland taste in my mouth and won't be returning.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

Have newer eaten Mexican food before, so the waitress recommended a 6 small disches, wish me and my friend shared and of course some tequila cocktails(they have over 100 different kinds of tequila)... And it was amazing, a little bit spicy but the combination of flavors opened up a new world for me! From now on: more Mexican food to the world!
It's a very small, private and popular restaurant so I would recommend to book a table a few days ahead.

“Amazing Mexican, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Up market mexican food, we started with the Cuatro Ceviche: cured scallops, celery hearts, cucumber, spring onions and four citrus broth, incredible so much flavour. For mains i had the special of Hertfordshire beef topped half lobster & bone marrow, outstanding. My husband had the Costillas: spicy guava pork ribs, sweet plantain crisps, pickled red onion and chipotle slaw, the ribs are more like huge pork chops on the bone, delicious & juicy. Great cocktails & a full tequilla menu for you tequilla lovers out there :) Would recommend this restaurant as a must visit. Cant wait go back.

“Style over substance.”

Food was average, seating uncomfortable, expensive overall. The place looks well but that's about it.

“Not exactly Seventh Heaven”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

'I hear the cocktails will change your life' advised a friend - well that was enough for me, I booked for a Friday night for dinner with an old group of good friends. 777 is buzzy and devastatingly trendy - but it kind of appears to be a case of style over substance.

The food is on the pricey side - only one of our party actually ordered a 'main' - the duck dish was good, but not particularly exciting. The rest of us ordered a mix of tostados and taquitos.

I must say my Pork Confit taquitos were delicious, as were the mushroom, but the Steak special taquitos were considerably overcooked with an overpowering horseradish type sauce. While the Papas Bravas were actually awful - and I would have thought that was bread and butter stuff for a Mexican restaurant.

Service was hit and miss - just because a place is 'cool' doesn't mean the staff should be 'cool' with the customers, and I didn't appreciate the attempt to upsell on the wine menu.

On the positive, the cocktails are outstanding. The El Gigolo de Goma, for example, was an great mix of flavours. And the whole cocktail menu is inventive and exciting.

The cocktail menu would entice me back, but I would approach it in a bar snack and scoops kind of way - because really as a complete dining experience, it's not cutting it.
