“great location within walking distance of many key attractions”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

This is a lovely Victorian townhouse in an above average area of Dublin. A short walk from most of the Embassies of the World. It was about a 20 minute walk to St. Stephen's Green upscale shops and restaurants and the main stop for bus tours of Dublin. It was approx 35 minutes by airport shuttle bus from the airport, followed by a 5 minute walk.
The staff were attentive and helpful. We had a small, interesting 2 level room facing the street but were not bothered by traffic noises.

Stayed here last weekend (12th July, 2014).
Wonderful accommodation 15 mins walk from St. Stephen's Green. Reception staff very friendly and welcoming and the little notes around the room ensure you that, should you need anything, whether it be a midnight case of the munchies or help planning your trip, they are always at the touch of a button.
If your wanting a base handy to the shops and bars, but without the busy and noisy envirnoment, this is a great place for you. I'm by no means a 'walker', but the 30 min stroll to Temple Bar via St. Stephen's Green was so lovely, it didn't matter at all.

We wanted somewhere to stay in Dublin so that we could dine at Michelin's "best restaurant" in Dublin, which would have been a nice walk away but for the fact that the temperatures were up in the 30's.

My partner knew this area, because she had lived in a flat across the road whilst training in Dublin.

Town Houses are always difficult to access! Are they fancy B&B's or small hotels shoe-horned into a terrace house? What I can say about Pembroke Townhouse is that it was difficult to assess and report on because the room was so insufferably hot because of very unusual weather.

Having dropped my partner off so she could check in, I drove around to the back to park my car in the "secure" car park. It was free - excellent! But I was told that the owner was thinking of charging for parking, in keeping with the other establishments in the area. For that to be acceptable the security arrangements need to be tightened up. I was allowed in without question when I buzzed on the intercom and the "secure door" from the car park to the hotel was on the latch, so how was that "secure?".

The room we were initially allocated was at the front, directly behind reception. My partner pointed out that this was unacceptable, it would have been very noisy. So we were moved to the only other available room, at the back, at the top of the house. Both rooms were functional, without being spectacular, in fact if you were being unkind you could construct a description using words like "cat" "swing" "enough" "not". However all we wanted to was somewhere to sleep for one night then leave on the next days HSS ferry.

If you are thinking of staying here then go for a room at the back, the road at the front is very busy and I couldn't have slept in such a room.

The bathroom was very small, one person at a time only please! Best described as utilitarian. The towels weren't best quality and small, but shower gel and a small piece of soap and hair wash/conditioner were supplied. The bed linen was clean. There was a small amount of storage space.

Food was available in the dining room, but I can only comment on breakfast, which was good. Irish, fry-up, and was served to the table as was the toast and tea/coffee.

The guest lounge area was quite small. But well laid out. There was complimentary, tea & coffee available. There was a small bar area.

This turned out to be a perfectly adequate "no frills" place to stay for a couple of nights. It wasn't cheap, but what now is in Dublin? I guess considering the way Dublin prices have gone, it does represent good value. But basically it is just a fancy B&B with a dinning room. There's nowt wrong with that!

H John F, Thank you for writing a review and we are glad to hear you had an somewhat enjoyable stay - and you are right in saying - we sure did have some unusually hot weather here last year!
Just maybe to address one of your comments - we are very aware who comes into our car park and all only guests staying with us are allowed to park with us.
Look forward to welcoming you on another occasion.
Best regards, Fiona and all the team

The hotel pembroke townhouse in dublin is ok ,but there is not a 4* hotel. First of all anenimities are not of a 4 star : there is no in room minibar,or a kettle ; the de luxe room I had, was small with a tiny tv set ; complimentary cookies and cakes in the loby shouldn't count when rating a hotel. And is rather far from the main atractions of the city if you don' t have a car. Plus ,you are somehow forced to have breakfast at their restaurant as other restaurants are at about 15 min walk and they don't open before 9 o'clock .Wi-fi, altough free ,is barely working and you are entitled only at 2 devices. Otherwise the hotel is clean and staff helpful, althogh rather slow, and I'm sure you can find better hotels at the same price . I ' d rate it 3 *

Room Tip: Choose a de luxe room ,otherwise you'll end up in a cell.

Dear daniela511960,
Thank you for writing a review. We are sad to hear that you feel overated, but I must address some of your comments. We do not ever pretend to be something we are not. We are graded as a 4 star guesthouse (and not 4 star hotel which is quite different in Ireland) by the Irish Tourist board, and this we have no control over the requirements. You are correct in saying a hotel is different, but we are not a hotel or ever pretend to be! There are many bars and restaurants just a 1 to 5 minutes walk from us, and also many more as you go further, so this I would diisagree with too (a quick search on Google maps will also concur with this). Due to our existing provider/s giving us trouble, we have had to invest heavily both internally and externally in our wifi (with tremendous expense!) the last few months and we now find it an excellent service.
Maybe you will change your mind some day and come back and stay with us and we will do our best to lok after you.
Best regards, Fiona and all the team

Essentially, this hotel is just about adequate, but really not great. The most surprising aspect is that there is no cold running water available in the bathrooms. Apparently, this is due to the hot pipes and cold pipes being close together and resulting in the cold water being heated up in the pipes. This really didn't provide me with any comfort that the the water was safe to drink (having been heated up nicely to allow bugs to breed). It was disappointing that, with this being a known issue, that no complementary bottled water was provided.

The room facilities were very limited, there being no minibar, or tea/coffee making facilities. Complementary tea/coffee would be provided to guestrooms on request, or freely available in the room off reception. This seemed to be thought of as a good thing for some reason, but not really ideal when you might want a cuppa first thing in the morning, before getting dressed.

There was no iron in the room. I had to crouch on the floor to use the hairdryer with a very short flex. The TV wasn't tuned in properly, only every second or third channel had proper receiption. The remote control was filthy. I struggled to open the windows, which was necessary in a room without air conditioning. The duvet was designed for winter, being far too heavy for warm June weather.

My room was quiet, although this would not have been the case with the room I was originally allocated, which was sandwiched between reception and the breakfast room. The furniture in the room was mismatched, but the room was clean (remote control aside).

I wasn't impressed with the breakfast. I was surprised to see so little choice, it seemed to be very much what would have been on offer 20 years ago. There was no cold meats or cheeses. There was only one type of yoghurt. No museli. Cheap bread for toast. Dry wheaten bread. Coffee like dishwater.

To be fair, the hotel wasn't expensive, but it was supposed to be 4 star. It was far below my expections of a 4 star.

Room Tip: Do not accept rooms on floor 2. These will be very noisy

Thank you for writing a review. We are sad to hear that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us.

You are correct in saying a hotel is different, but we are not a hotel or pretend to be.
We do have cold running water in all of our bedrooms, also bottled water available for sale or complimentary chilled filtered water from our kitchen on request. We believe we have a very extensive choice at breakfast - however are offerings are very deliberately Irish and homemade, hence no cold meats or cheese which would be a continental European offering. We do offer many cereals and our own homemade granola too.
Maybe you will change your mind some day and come back and stay with us and we will do our best to look after you.

The accommodations were very clean. The rooms were a good size.
Many attractions and restaurants were close by.

Free tea, coffee and baked goods all day.
Breakfast was pricey and not an option to just have tea and toast.
