Have been here a number of times this summer, as a couple and with family. Been there for lunch on a Sunday and the menu is fantastic and the food and portions very good. A good Sunday treat. More recently, been upstairs for tapas, which is very good indeed, but the variety of tapas could be longer/ more varied. The service was excellent. If we had any grevience it would be for the wine list- guys this is no longer Celtic Tiger times- prices need to come back by €7/8.

I have driven past this place so many times and wondered how nice it would be and always wanted to go. I recently purchased a deal on dealrush.ie where i got 55 Euro credit for 22 Euro. I thought it was too good to be true and in fact it was.

We arrived and entered the room, to be greeted by tables and not a front of house. We had to walk the length of the restaurant to introduce ourselves to the staff and get a table we had booked. Strange and unconventional but I’d get over it.

We sat down to be given water and menu's seemed like it was going well. Wine list had no prices for glasses of wine, i was driving so the wife didn’t want a full bottle. They did sell by the glass but not priced or advertised. The menu was very limited in the choice, and expensive to be honest. We ordered, pate 8.50 and garlic mushrooms 8.95 for starters. Then mains we had beef cannelloni 19.95 and lamb shank 24.95, desert Eton mess 6.50.

Starters, Pate: 3 piped blobs of pate with rocket and very little relish, and the bread stuck in the pate like 1970's.

Garlic Mushroom: 5 Mushrooms (Small) with pancetta and garlic sauce and rocket in the middle.

Both very dated and poor value.

Mains:

Cannelloni: Huge portion, but lacked authentic taste.

Lamb Shank: Little mash and gravy lacked any real flavour. Shank was fatty and one of the worst tasting shanks I’ve tried.

Desert: Meringue was shop bought and strawberry sauce was cheap and shop bought, strawberries and cream were nice.

Other notes: Napkins were paper not cloth. We got one fill up of water even though we were empty for ages, we never got asked if we wanted another wine or soft drink even though we wanted one. Didn't ask about Coffee or tea with dessert.

Very poor, and would not recommend or visit again. A lot of points i made were trivial if the food was tasty but it wasn't. It was pub food at best and fine dining prices. Menu was limited.

My friend and I visited La Banca and we were very impressed! We shared a nice antipasti plate and I had chicken fillet and she had the pasta dish. The wine was reasonably priced too and very good. One thing I did notice was that the cod was €34.95 which I actually thought was a misprint. The fillet steak was cheaper than that. The place was very busy and had a good turnover while we were there. The staff were very helpful so I would definitely return. I had bought a voucher which offered €55 worth of food for just €22 so we got a very good deal on the meal, including dessert.

first impressions poor -small, cramped space, like entering someones sitting room. second impressions worse when we were handed a very limited menu not what is on their website -we were told the chef changed the menu but really they have just cut back considerably -there wasnt even a side dish section and no wine by the glass on the wine or alcohol list.

prices expensive and overall presentation given a lot more effort than taste!a nice touch was bread, butter and pesto brought to the table for free.

husband had prawns pil pil which were expensive at 11.95 -came on a large wooden board with 3 sections -one with bowl of prawns, nothing in middles and a pile of wilted over dressed salad on the other-i have had prawns pil pil many times in many countries and never seen it served without bread!prawns were good quality but overcooked.

for mains, was initially impressed when mains came out -on large, round, black slates with each containing the same garnish-a piped swirl of mash with 2 fried sticks of spaghetti stuck in it(cold and tasteless, not seasoned)a swoosh of orange which i assume to be pureed turnip(freezing and watery, tasteless, not seasoned)a swoosh of beige(garlicky taste and also cold)little dabs of green which i assume was pureed pea(tasteless also)
-hubby had the special that day which was baked hake with a tomato sauce supposed to be topped with prawns, smoked salmon and parmesan -the fish had the sauce on top which contained tiny prawns and no sign of smoked salmon -was tasty and the only hot thing either of us got!
-I had "cajun chicken served on paprika fried potatoes with tempura prawns and either creole or cajun sauce".The small, skinless chicken breast cut in half looked seasoned with spice -it was again, tasteless with no hint of cajun and extremely dry, my knife could barely cut through it,the potatoes were squashed baby potatoes with paprika but no taste of paprika and not crispy-i didnt eat them.the prawns were overcooked and coated in a thick batter not light tempura.there was a dry fried chicken wing on the plate with zero seasoning.there was a round ball on the plate-it seemed to be chicken mince, covered in breadcrumbs and sesame seeds and deep fried-very dry and tasteless.both mains were 22.95 which would have been fine if the taste lived up to the expectation and the presentation.very disappointing evening and wont be back.had to make a sandwich when i went home as so hungry!

Very pleasant staff, busy on a random Tuesday but not too full. The waiter was very helpful and accommodated for our extra special dietary requirements. The food was prompt and we were in and out in a little over an hour which suited us perfectly whilst never getting the feeling of being rushed at any point.
The bad points. I went for the early bird and chose the garlic mushrooms which tasted beautiful but I was only given 3 small button mushrooms which is just not enough, even just one more would look better. 2 courses for €19.95 is still a little bit dear, if even they were to add tea or coffee to this it would make it a great bargain.
This was our 3rd visit and it won't be our last.
