This charming little museum was one of my favorite things I did in Dublin. The tour guide was wonderful and I loved hearing about more recent events in Ireland. Well worth the entrance fee, you won't regret.

Interesting – I was a tad sceptical when we went as to how engaging two rooms of “bits” could be – and frankly if you were left to wander around on your own then it wouldn't have been! However, the tour guide manages to knit everything very nicely together and makes an interesting and engaging visit – recommended!! The highlight for me was the reaction of the Irish people in the room when he pointed to a picture of Charlie Haughey and asked “does anyone recognise this man” ha ha!!

This delightful museum, located on St. Stephen's Green, contains a photographic and memorabilia collection depicting Dublin in the decades of the last century. There are several opportunities to get in for free, thanks to sponsorship by various companies and organisations. There is a narrated "tour" of the two main rooms and then there are several other rooms to visit. Currently, in the memory of the lockout of 1913, there is a heart-rending collection of photographs illustrating the appalling conditions in the slums at that time.

We discovered 'The Little Museum' after having eaten in the restaurant downstairs (Hatch & Sons) the night before. We came back the next day, ducking in out of the rain thinking we'd give it a quick look while drying off. Well, 2 + hours later we were still poking around and having a grand time.

The museum has three levels. On the top and bottom levels were photographic exhibits of Dublin in the 20th century: one focuing on the tenements in 1913 and the second on a particualr neighbourhood in North Dublin. These change out every so often.

The middle floor is the real gem of the museum however. It's made up of two rooms literally stuffed to the ceilings with artifacts, pictures, photos, posters, paintings all donated by 'ordinary Dubliners'. This collection tells the many stories of Dublin and Ireland through the years. It covers all aspects including art, politics, literature, music, TV, film, etc., so there's really something for everyone to enjoy.

If you get the chance I would highly recommend taking a guided tour. Our tour guide, Godfrey, was extremely knowledgable and entertaining. He really made the experience for us, breathing life into each of the selected items with interesting facts and funny stories. We had more of a historical type of tour, covering all sorts of different things. I understand they also do more focused tours, for example focusing on the literary aspects of Dublin, looking at the famous authours, etc. Or you can just poke around on your own and investigate whatever tickles your fancy.

This museum is a terrific way to spend a few hours right in the heart of Dublin. Run don't walk!! :D
