“#1 B&B!”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

This was the perfect B&B in Dublin. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The rooms were lovely, clean and had their own en suite. Gerry was so informative about Dublin and things to do and places to go and eat. His breakfast was just the best we had throughout our trip. Fresh and delicious. It also was the perfect location to catch the bus, as we used public transit in the city. Also, loved the perfect location to walk to The Hole in the Wall pub that we all enjoyed so much. This is B&B perfection!

We stayed all around Ireland in many B&Bs over a period of two to three weeks and, while there were several outstanding ones, we felt Gerry Byrne's Beech Lodge was the best of all. The furnishings are tasteful, there are fresh flowers, interesting wall hangings, up-to-the minute upkeep and maintenance for perfect conditions. The house is designed for maximum quiet even when it is fully occupied - which it seems to be almost all the time. His breakfasts are even better than the average famous Irish breakfasts, with a wide range of choices. The food comes out quickly, fresh, hot, attractively plated and delicious. There is always fresh fruit available in the lounge, and snacks in the parlor and in the bedrooms, along with coffee and tea. Not only is there good Internet access in the rooms, but there is a good computer available for guest use in the parlor. The location is ideal - away from City Centre, but with easy access via frequent bus lines almost just outside the door. The hosts are warm, sincere, accessible, helpful people, with much practical information to convey.

Beech Lodge is lovely! It is located in a very nice suburban area with easy bus access to center city Dublin and nice local restaurants. The home is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The host, Gerry, is one in a million. He went out of his way to give us information, prepared bus guides, and suggestions. It is obvious that he loves meeting new people and sharing his love for his city. In addition, when I had an emergency at home, he took us under his wing and helped making hasty travel changes.

We decided to go to Ireland for a 'big' birthday and my husband and I and another couple started planning months ago. I did a LOT of research, and although have a bit of a preference for the anonymity of hotels thought perhaps B&Bs would be a good way to go, especially after reading some reviews by fellow travellers. Everyone was right on about Beech Lodge and our wonderful host Gerry. It is so valuable to have someone take the time to advise you on spots to eat (Hole in the Wall! O'Neils!) as well as spots to avoid. We even had an email from him a couple of months before we arrived advising us to be cautious about paying outrageous car insurance rates on rentals. We felt very safe at Beech Lodge, the advice on the bus pass was excellent (make sure you do this, buy it at the airport), the rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast...there was a menu to choose from!
Thank you Gerry, it was a terrific introduction to Ireland. I hope you remember the two Canadian couples from Ontario - we'll remember you.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back that was very quiet. Our friends were overlooking the road and said there...

My wife and I stayed 2 nights and enjoyed the Beech Lodge very much. Gerry is a fantastic and helpful host, the B&B is on the busline into town (10-15 minute ride) so no need for a car, and the Lodge is clean, nicely decorated, with a very good breakfast. The bedroom was not large but adequate. Overall, a very positive experience.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Beech Lodge for four nights in June 2013, and we had an amazing time! Gerry is the best host you could possibly ask for! He is kind, attentive, extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the city. When we weren't sure about what to do some days, he gave us many helpful tips on what to do and see.

We went to many bars and pubs in the Dublin City Centre, but outside of the Cake Cafe (fantastic!), the Hole in the Wall was our favorite place and it was just a five minute walk from The B&B. We had the best Sunday evening (before a bank holiday) meeting people and having one of the best dinners. And it was Gerry's suggested place for us! He certainly knows how to run an excellent B&B!

You are about a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre, but Gerry explains everything so well and the buses are easy to figure out. It is so nice being outside the centre, and Phoenix Park is gorgeous!

Breakfast was absolutely fantastic every morning! I forgot to ask Gerry where he gets his coffee, but as an obsessive coffee drinker and enthusiast, I can tell you sincerely it is one of the best cups I have ever had. My boyfriend and I loved it there, and we certainly hope to come back one day again.

We just arrived home from our trip in Ireland. Our trip consisted of the 22nd of May to June 1. We stayed here May 22, and May 30-31st. Gerry was fantastic! The home is beautiful. Food was amazing! Gerry had made sure everything was perfect! Dinner ideas, directions on public transportation, cleanliness, and just greeting with a smile each time we saw him and or his family. All very very kind and gracious! They were wonderful! Perfect area of quiet yet close enough to the city. Can not say enough about this B&B! I wanted to bring Gerry home! I miss it all :)

Room Tip: We had room 1 and room 3. Both were perfect.
