“Great New Year's Eve , 2005/2006”

If you want a nice, clean hotel that has a great staff, no probems at check in/out, is QUIET at night, yet still withing walking distance to all the great areas in Dublin (Temple Bar, Grafton St, St Stephens' Green, Trinity College, etc...) this is the place!

It's a wonderful hotel and I am rating it a 5 - but mind you this is not a "luxury hotel". However, the rooms are much bigger that the Clarence, but not as "fancy" (or expensive). Just a heads up - if you want something decadent, go to the Four Seasons, If you want a wonderful hotel with everything BUT the decadence, go here!

We stayed in the Alexander's 'Laurel Suite' for a few nights over New Years Eve. Everything was wonderful! Great staff, wonderful bar and food, And I have to say some of the best coffee I've ever had!

The suite was very nice. Huge bathroom wih big bath and seperate (powerful!) shower. Lots of room at the sink for toiletries. Bathroom was stocked with nice shampoo, lotion, etc.

Suite was spacious with 3 windows, comfy couch and chairs, and a desk area. Coffee/tea kettle with a wonderful assortment of teas, sugars, etc. Everything was so clean and new. Carpets, walls, bedding - all were in perfect condition.

Nice sized bedroom with lots of closet space and a nice dresser as well. And the beds are so comfortable! There is a TV in the living room as well as the bedroom. Great reception as well!

What a treat to get up in the morning, take a nice bath and relax with a fresh cup of coffee while watching the morning news! I felt so at home.

The Alexander really spoiled us!

We stayed in Dublin again last year for 2 weeks and stayed at the O'Callaghan Court Apartments that they own, down the street. No reviews here yet on them, but they were FANTASTIC!

Stayed June 2007

What a great hotel, first time in Dublin and have stayed in many a hotel. The lobby is massive and what a smile from the receptionist when i came to check in. I went to my bedroom and found a very large bed which i would have loved to have taken home. The hotel offer broadband and wireless at a very low cost. The bar is a trendy place called Winners, which serves a great pint of Guinness. Hope to stay here again soon when back in Dublin.

Stayed at the hotel for one night on business. Had never heard of the hotel. Very central ...very nice reception area and reception staff, Maria checked me in and upgraded me to a suite at no extra cost. It was fab large sitting room, massive bed and clean bathroom with separate shower and bath. The TV in th bedroom didn't work but it was sorted with one call.
Breakfast was a disaster ...it was organised chaos, had to wait to be seated for ages and only got seated when we approached a waitress. no glasses for fruit juice ...had to ask. Very limited fruit and they ran out of out hot food........ everyone seemed stressed out !! (it was 8.30am).
On checkout Maria sorted my bill, she remembered the TV problem and apologised. She is a credit to the hotel!!! would stay again if they sorted breakfast!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Alexander Hotel and were quite disappointed with our stay. We booked a couple of months in advance and got the 'internet special' - a whopping €190 for the room for 1 night. For this we got a shabby-feeling room with a dripping shower (this was 'fixed' for us but started again after we took a shower) and no breakfast. The bed was small, very low and uncomfortable and the bedspread seemed quite grubby. The staff were nice and polite though.

I would recommend the Trinity Capital hotel in Pearse street instead.

Good hotel, spacious ,clean room super comfortable beds and cosy lounge area. Good breakfast( never had scones for breakfast before - what a treat )
Very unfriendly welcome from Lidia on reception which didn't instill much confidence in us about our stay here but as it turned out apart from that we would definately stay here again

Stayed in the Alexander on Feb 17th for a girls night in town. The hotel is very centrally located just a 5 minute walk from Grafton Street & 2 minute from Pearse St. DART station. There is car parking available at a cost (it used to be free...) about €15 for an overnight leaving at midday.

Reception is spacious with plenty of comfy sofas & the bar has a few flat screen TV's to catch the sports.

The rooms are clean & well appointed with climate control (very handy because it was baking hot when we woke), incredibly bright bedside lights, a tea/coffee tray but no minibar.

Surprisingly, for the rate of €165 per room, breakfast was EXTRA!!! We weren't prepared to fork out €15.50 for it, so we strolled up to Grafton Street for a feast in Brown Thomas instead

Exactly what you would want and expect from a 4-star hotel.

Part of the O'Callagher chain, everything was clean, functioning, staff were polite and professional (not very friendly and the Irish are known for their hospitality and friendliness) but also the hotel non descript.

Two not so good points:
- Communication. E-mailed the hotel several times prior to our stay and got no response. Simple enquiry as to whether breakfast was included (this was added to our booking notes) and it was not even acknowledged. Decided to wait and find out when we got there but there was no reason to ignore us.
- Breakfast not included. For the price we were paying for the hotel I would have expected it to be included in the price.

Summary: Standard hotel-chain 4-star hotel.
