Party of four of us had dinner here last Saturday night, and it exceeded the very high expectations we had prior to going. Service was attentive, precise , and impeccable, notwithstanding that it was very busy and every table was occupied.
We started off with pre-dinner drinks in the outdoor garden area (with an effective patio heater) and were each presented with a complimentary glass of Bollinger champagne-nice way to get into the mood of things!
We all opted for the tasting menu (€60)with seven courses-what a culinary delight, with courses such as:-
Fermanagh chicken pudding , Clogherhead crab with basil & tomato fondue, roast skate wing with baby leeks , loin of wicklow rabbit, a coffee parfait dessert ,a cheeseboard and coffee---and a few amusee bouches in between. The four course menu is €40. For the presentation , and the sourcing of the best of Irish produce, this is very good value for an exceptional dining treat.Every single course was explained to us on presentation. One of our party did not fancy rabbit, and this was substituted with a delicious vegetarian option (the restaurant has a vegetarian menu too).
Our wines were selected from a short list of 18 excellent well-chosen wines(house wines are €22 per bottle). We opted for a crisp muscadet , and an excellent Argentinean Malbec.
This is a top-class silver service restaurant offering top-quality produce. The service standards and professionalism , friendliness of the staff, and the relaxed atmosphere in fine surroundings (in a building built originally as a residence in Edwardian times)make this restaurant a 'must do' dining experience in Dublin (about 10 minutes by taxi from the city centre). Service charge is discretionary.
