“The Ha Penny Bridge is a Dublin Treasure”

The Ha Penny Bridge is an ellegent, beautiful, Nineteenth Century iron, pedestrain bridge across the Liffey River. It is named after the toll it took to cross when it opened. (It's free now.) It is a great place to pause for photos or watch Dublin go past. Not surprisingly, Dublin movies frequently have scene set there. A visit to Dublin is not complete without it.

You must get your photo taken on the halfpenny bridge if you are in Dublin. (It would be like going to Paris and no tower pics if you miss out.)

Our apartment was on the Norhtside just a half a block from the bridge. It was so cool to see and walk across each day. I wish I would of had a padlock for my husband and I to place on the bridge. I have to say it was sad to see the folks on the bridge begging for money. The brought their cardboard box to lean up against and empty coffee cup.

Find out the back history and see it. Small but full of history. Good place to people watch and see the beauty of Dublin

You have to love the story of the Ha Penny Bridge. It is actually the Lifey Bridge, but when it was built pedestrians were charged a halfpenny to cross....and the name Ha-penny has stuck. The day we visited the white bridge was decked in blue ribbons and flowers in honor of the anniversary of the SMURFS...very cute. When you cross the bridge look for padlocks on the top of the rail. Couples place them there, with their names inscribed...how romantic!
