“A real classic”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

The Custom House in my opinion is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, an architectural masterpiece of European neo-classicism by James Gandon. To think it was burnt to the ground in 1921 during the War on Independence. I love the view from the railway bridge leaving Tara St. heading north, I picked up a copy of a James Malton (1803) painting in the National Gallery of Ireland, it has tall ships in the foreground, beautiful , people always admire it.

“Limited Visibility”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

The Custom House is a site of historical significance both commercially as with the burgeoning second capital of the bBritish Empire and then latterly as the site of a defining moment during the war of independence. Its a stunning piece of Gandon design, but there is not much on display save externally.

“A Gandon Gem”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

I used to work in the freight sector so I had occasion to go inside the building many's a time. Another superb piece of architecture by James Gandon and in a beautiful location on the banks of the river Liffey. Even if you cant manage to get inside, a stroll through the grounds is worth the visit.

“I pass by it everyday.........”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

A wonderful example of James Gandon's architectural skill perched right on the river Liffey. Worth a short walk (from most parts of central Dublin) and close to the Famine monument, Samuel Beckett bridge and IFSC.
