Owner description: Christ Church Cathedral is one of Dublin's oldest buildings, a leading visitor attraction and a place of pilgrimage for almost 1,000 years. Famous for its breathtaking beauty, magnificent architectural features and wonderful floor tiles, Christ Church is also popular as a venue and is host to many high profile concerts throughout the year. It is home to the tomb of Strongbow, leader of the Normans, who captured Dublin in 1170. The Medieval Crypt, one of the largest in Britain and Ireland, extends under the entire Cathedral and contains The Mummified cat and rat, trapped in the organ in the 1860s. Guided tours, including the belfry, available up to five times a day Monday to Saturday.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access

Purchased admission with my Dublina (Viking Museum) tour ticket. We spent about a half hour exploring the large cathedral and crypt. I'm not particularly religious, but I always enjoy the relaxing and reverent atmosphere in churches. This one lived up to expectations - lots of nooks and crannies to see.

The crypt, oddly enough, has a cafe in it. Not sure who would want to eat in the damp, dark basement, and it took away from the authentic feel of the crypt. It had costumes from 'The Tudors', though, which was cool to see!

Hi there,
Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your visit. You might be interested to know that the crypt is regularly hired out for functions and events - everything happens down there, book launches, Christmas parties, wedding receptions, the works!

We were in Dublin on Easter Sunday and went to the late morning service. A magnificent cathedral, and as part of the service the choir and instrumentalists performed Mozart's Coronation Mass. It was a powerful and moving experience. We felt very lucky indeed to be there.

Hi there,
Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed the service - it's always well worth checking out what's happening in the cathedral before visiting. We're really excited here about Advent and Christmas, which are every bit as exciting as Easter!

This is a self guided tour, and is very interesting, including the crypt. The viking history, and the displays, well worth a trip

Probably the most significant continuous Christian place of worship in Ireland that has been in existence for nearly a thousand years! It is a beautiful place of peace and refuge from the often harshness of the world outside. Visit it with an open heart and open mind and you will be richly rewarded with a spiritual renewal.

Incredibly beautiful church. The architecture is magnificent as the size of this cathedral. the interior is very ornate and their are many historical points of interest, including the crypts of some of the famous priests who led the church over the centuries.
