Charleville Lodge
Ranked #110 of 150 Hotels in Dublin
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Located in a quiet district of Dublin, away from the city center but just in front of a bus stop (Bus #46A), the Charleville Lodge has a nice Victorian look. It is a pleasant 30 minute walk, if weather allows, to O’Connell Street in Central Dublin.
Our room (#10) was the smallest room I have ever stayed. With a small private bathroom, the room was basic, dark and old. All furniture needs an urgent change!
Free WiFi is available in the room and also in common hotel facilities.
The breakfast was not included. The area does not have lot of options nearby although you can find a Tesco shop at 10 minutes walking from the hotel.
The staff was always friendly and kind.

Stayed here recently for 2 nights in single room 25. The room was very small but clean and comfortable. The bed was nice and soft and the shower was great. My room, in particular, was off in the back corner and was very quiet. I never heard a sound when I was in my room. There was free wifi, a computer with printer available and a coffee machine in the hall. The one slight downside to this place was the location. It is definitely a 20-25 minute walk to get anywhere near the city center. In fact, my advice if you stay here is not to walk in. The neighborhood you walk through as you make your way toward the city center is not worth the long walk in my opinion. Instead, cross the street and take bus 46A into town. The stop is next to the big church on the corner The bus drivers are helpful and will tell you when to get off. There are no bus stop names in Dublin, so you have to ask or pay close attention to where you are. But you can't miss Dublin city Center once you're there, so get off the bus anywhere and take it from there. The same bus, 46A, takes you back to the B&B and drops you off directly in front of it. Fare is Euro 1.90. Bring exact change for the bus!

Breakfast here is an additional 5-7 Euro, depending on what you want. It is basic but adequate and cheerfully served.

Bottom Line: for the price, this B&B was fine. Adequate, clean, no frills, and no major complaints.

Room Tip: If you are a single traveler, request room 25. It's quiet with a huge window and the bed is comf...

The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood with good bus connection to the city, the Phoenix Park and Don Laoghaire at the coast.
The lobby is very nice and there is a kind of living room with some books for the guests.
Our room was named "suite" and had a good size. But the rest wasn't good at all.
We had grey horse in the whole shower, a part of the toilet seat was missing and we could not lock the bathroom or the room from the inside.
The door knob was not fixed properly and the electrical outlet came a little bit out of the wall.
The television reception was poor.
The room service was not very good and one day, they even forgot the garbage from the other rooms in our room.

You could decide each day whether you wanted to eat breakfast there.
The breakfast was not very delicious, so that we ate outside all the other days.

The staff was very friendly and we got a light version of the Irish Independent every day.
As we ate in a restaurant that was recommended by the hotel the first evening, the hotel paid for the first drink.

But because of the poor standard of our "suite", the Charleville Lodge only gets two points.

Room Tip: As our suite was in a bad condition, I doubt that the normal rooms are better.

Best thing about this hotel would be location. The bathroom was tiny and dirty, you cannot open the shower door from inside as there is no handle to slide it open, the water was cold and spraying in every direction. The TV has RTE1, RTE2 and TV3 and they weren't always clear reception, very poor for a supposed 'boutique' hotel.
Travel tip if you do decide to stay here get the 46A bus from O'Connell Street and it stops right outside.

Quiet place in a quiet neighborhood .... we enjoyed our stay there and it was 10 mn by bus to center town !! nice room, friendly and helpful people at the reception ! from reading the other reviews I am amazed as our room was very clean and charming ... the parking was very conveninent and worth the extra fee as we used the bus and were able to leave it the next day eventhough we had checked out ! breakfast was good although a bit greasy .... if I had one inconvenience is the bus line is horrible if you don't know where you are going !!

i stayed in this hotel last weekend with friends of mine.. the room was very dated..the furniture seriously needed replacing ..and cleaning. The room looked very grubby. The lightshade was filthy in the room. The bathroom was tiny..and the towels were hard and threadbare.
We had breakfast one morning in the hotel..it was hard to attract the staff in the hotel..the girl serving in the breakfast room was rude when I asked her about ordering tea and coffee. She gave me a filthy look and walked off.
The continental breakfast was of a low standard and the food once gone was not replaced for people who were arriving a little later than others.

Room Tip: avoid this hotel if you prefer to be nearer to the city centre
