“Sleeping in Dublin”
Reviewed November 14, 2008

We were looking for a double room for a night in Dublin and ended up booking here.

We got there in good time, and compared to other hostels we have stayed in, this felt more like a bed&breakfast as it was quite small. Checking in was efficient but not over-friendly. Some may like this approach, but I prefer a bit of a chat about things to do in a place and especially in somewhere like Dublin.

Our room was lovely though, simple decorations, clean white bed and walls, and wooden floorboards. The en-suite was nice and modern. We couldn't get a hot shower in the afternoon but in the morning it was fine. The heating was turned way up though which got a little uncomfortable at times. There was also an old wooden writing desk by the window which I thought was a nice touch in a literary city. We were opposite a church which woke us in the morning but not too early, and we didn't get disturbed by noise from the street much either, despite the large numbers of people drinking and out.

The hostel is a fair walk from Temple Bar, so if you're planning to go out in the bars there then it is probably a bit far to get back at night. But if you're planning to explore more of Dublin, I found it to be a reasonably central base at a good price for a double room.

Breakfast was standard, just cereal, toast, tea. Overall I give this hostel an average rating because although the room was nice, I did not feel very welcomed by the check in and the breakfast was very average.

  • Liked — I thought our room was lovely.

This is a great hostel. It is budget accomodation but exceeds expectations.

we had two different rooms while we were there, both were very clean, light and comfortable, no complaints at all. nice ensuite with lots of hot water! small but fine for use.

Staff were lovely, made a lot of extra effort to help us.

self service breakfast of cereals toast etc, very nice as i wasn't ecpecting a breakfast fat all for that price!

Also walking distance to centre, along a main st, which is great as taxis hard to find at night! takes about 20mins at a leisurely pace!

We spent one night at Harrington House. The room and bathroom were both kind of run down and dirty-looking. Location is a bit of a walk from Temple Bar. We slept fine, despite some loud Scotsmen partying upstairs. Breakfast was ok - cereal, toast, and some meats and cheese. Nothing spectacular, but nothing great either.

My friend and I stayed in this hotel on a shortbreak holiday to Dublin. We had a bit of a bumpy start as the directions the hotel website provided us with had not stated how far exactly "within walking distance of Temple Bar" was. We ended up lugging our suitcases with us for over an hour on a late Friday night, dodging drunken teenagers along the way.
Of course, next day we found out that there was a bus from and to the city center stopping directly opposite the hotel.

Our stay itself was lovely, the hotel is family-run and the staff were very kind and helpful with directions and so on. We were pleasantly surprised when we were given a four-person room all to ourselves!

Our room was clean and reasonably spacious, only one little thing was that the bathroom floor was wooden and very hard to dry when it got wet. Other than that, we were happy with our room.

Breakfast was very basic but neither of us being great eaters, we didn't mind so much.

Overall our stay was a success, and we would definitely go there again!

We had a nice stay at Harrington House. Staff were very friendly. Is a reasonable walk from Temple Bar, however is well serviced by buses. We had a double room, which was clean and warm. Shower was hot but had extremely, extremely weak pressure. Breakfast was basic continental. Expect to pay cash.
