“Great location for a beano”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014 via mobile

Three friends and i booked the apartments (adjacent to main hotel) over a weekend to explore Dublin. It was clean, serviced and up to date. Bathroom looked as if it was fitted the day before; very nice.
It was also within stumbling distance of some fantastic pubs

Stayed February 2014, traveled with friends

Stayed there for 2 nights. Location is very good, right next to Temple bar. Very convenient for a drink at night. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We even left our luggage overnight and pick up the next day. Nice~

My husband and I stayed for the first time at the hotel mid March as we were attending a concert at the o2 in Dublin.
We got a great deal for a night without breakfast through their website (mid week, which may explain the reasonable price) and this was the main reason we chose the place for our stay.
The location is quite good as it is located next to Christchurch cathedral, which would be about 10-15 minutes' walk from the "centre" of Dublin (Trinity College, Grafton Street, St Stephen's Green) and about 10 minutes away from Temple Bar. We arrived from Heuston Station and while we got a taxi to get to the hotel, we were able to get a bus to get back to station as there is a stop just by the hotel on Dame Street.
The hotel from the outside is unassuming, and while it is not extraordinary, it is a nice hotel. It looks like it has been renovated recently, and we stayed in a nice room, court-view, which was small but lovely and clean as well as quiet. The hotel is a good distance away from Temple Bar so no noise pollution ensues, but any light sleeper might be annoyed by the bells of Christchurch as it is nearby (we thought it was really lovely).
We had a very good night's sleep, and the only complaint would be that the room was really - really - hot for March, and that we had to use the fan to cool it down.
While we did not have much dealings with the staff as we only delt with them at check-in and check-out, they were polite and helpful.
Overall, we had a good stay at the hotel, and realistically it does not deserve a score of Average, but I would not rate it "Very Good" either as we have stayed in better places in Dublin. This hotel rates "Good", and is a good place to stay for value and location.

We stayed at both apartment for a family of 4 and also on our last week in Dublin, we stayed at the hotel. For the apartment, the new wing is nicer, new and clean. No stairs to climb, just from door to door. At the old wing, the room is alright but too many stairs to the lift and with suitcases...it is tiring.

Also, booking online, the rates are cheaper and if you want to extend your stay, re-book it online again to get the same rate. We extended our stay and we went to the reception, thinking booking directly, would be cheaper. Infact not! The rates are more. Parking is limited in front of the hotel ( street-side).

Overall, I must say, the location is superb, quiet and walking distance to many places of interests e.g.. Trinity College, Grafton street... Pubs are just behind the hotel. The famous Temple Bar is nice, very crowded. Beware of pick pockets in crowded pubs, my first night, I was almost pick pocketed.

Room Tip: The apartments are excellent ( new wing)

Beautiful large room with a great shower. Bed was comfortable with a big TV, good wifi and location is brilliant just outside Temple Bar. Staff were friendly and helpful. Managed to get a very good deal as we booked on the day as we otherwise wouldn't have stayed if we had paid full price.

Very noisy: The room I had basically had the elevator shaft running through it. Every squeak, groan and rattle was clearly heard throughout the night.

I was also overcharged for breakfast.
I pre-booked on Booking.com and paid for 2 breakfast , and upon checking out they insisted I pay again!

Room Tip: Stay away, or make sure you ask for a good room. check your charge when you leave.

Dear Sir,

Thank you once again for booking with The George Frederic Handel Hotel and thank you also for your review.
We appreciate and encourage all feedback from our guests as your perspective is essential to achieving and maintaining the best possible standards.

I would like to apologise for all the inconveniences caused during your stay. There was an error made in the Reservations Department and the Breakfast wasn't inserted with your booking, there was a refund issued today on the same card for the extra breakfast charge.
Regarding the noise in the room, I am sorry for that, we do have quieter rooms away from the elevator as well and we are more than happy to accommodate our guests and change the rooms on request.
Again I apologise for all the troubles and I hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future and help us improve the experience through your very honest and constructive comments.

Thank you again and if i can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Alex Hurduc

Excellent value, would stay again, found the rooms clean and well equipped and the staff friendly and helpful. Could have been nearer the city centre but within easy walking distance of templebar and Grafton street areas
